Starting furnace on new Montana

Is it just a matter of turning on the propane then starting it up setting the thermostat to heat?

(1)Make sure the propane is turned on at the tanks. (2)Light the stove and make sure the burners are burning like they should. This will make sure there is propane in the gas line. (3) Set thermostat to furnace and set a few degrees BELOW current temperature. (4) Furnace should now light. (5) Adjust thermostat to desired temp.
Hope this helps.

In addition to Fatcatzz's instructions, be sure to set the Fan to "Auto" when in Furnace node. Otherwise the A/C fans will run at the same time.

And if this is a new rig, don’t be surprised if you get an odor from the furnace because the oils and maybe paint will be burning off the new parts. This is perfectly normal.

Temp was over 100 during pdi so just started the furnace this week here in the mountains. The odor was not as bad as in previous new units and did not linger as long. Left it on all night, worked as expected. Now just the fireplace during the day and heat pump at night. Nice not using propane for heat.

This is a new regulator sight glass configuration for me - how the heck do you read it? It is I assume, an automatic switch-over device, right?

Send a message via AIM to stengels
This tells you that the tank where the lever is directed is empty. You should flip the lever and get a green on the other tank, then have the empty bottle filled.

So looking at the picture, both tanks are red (empty). Can I expect one to be red and one to be green when one tank is empty? Both mine are green now, but I got a really poor dealer orientation and they didn't explain that. As a matter of fact, they told me it was not an automatic switch-over configuration.

You got it right Maxwell. It is an automatic change over, but you must do what stengels said. If not, you loose track of which tank you are on and you could end up with two empty tanks. You just have to get into the habit of checking your indicator every few days or so depending on your consumption.
I use mine all the time and we have never run out of propane in all my years of RVing.

Thanks - I just got into the Monty after 6 years in Crossroads Cruiser. I managed the tanks that way in it and never had a problem either. The only diff is that this sight glass looked a little like a radioactive sticker and I wasn't sure what it was telling me.

mine has a red R and green G, not sure if red means empty, i have it hooked to my 300 lb pig at home, furnace runs fine but the indicator shows the red R, maybe not enough pressure to switch it?

i change the factory propane hose to a Camco 59035 12' Propane Supply Hose, i can connect to on board tank or my pig.

Our Propane Regulator Sight Glass (and I did not know what it was called until this thread :=|) had a massive leak at that black handle at the top. The PDI gal said during the PDI that the smell in both compartments was from when the tanks were filled!!! I left it overnight at the dealer park hookup and when we came back in the morning I found one bottle sweating heavily as well as the pressure regulator - propane being used. I got my own jar of bubbles out and checked around. When leak found, the techs quickly replaced the sight glass and refilled the tank. They had never performed a leak check obviously.

Considering the PDI I got, maybe we bought at the same dealer. SMH! - disinformation is worse than misinformation!
Thanks

I thought home propane tanks were a two regulator system - tank (100-200psi) regulated to 10psi then another regulator at the device down to 6oz (11" water column). On the rv or a BBQ grill, outdoor fireplace, etc, it has one regulator between the tank and device dropping it directly from tank pressure to device pressure (160psi to 6 oz).
