Glacier Park in October

Hello All,

My wife and I are taking a trip to the west coast. We will be leaving Michigan in early October. I would like to travel to Glacier National Park for a few days, and then make our way to San Diego via Portland. However, I am concerned about the weather. Has anyone been there in the fall that could give me some advice?

Thank you,
Brian Belmonti

We have not camped in Oct but have been there in Oct. It is a transition time so weather can do anything. A lot of the park amenities will close in Sep. Would recommend a call to the park and have a flexible plan real time. Beautiful there in Oct.

Be aware that some rv parks in Montana and other mountainous states close in mid/late September. We came thru Monana on I90 in first week of Oct. and about half were closed, I would guess.

If you got to Glacier you will probably run into some snow. BUT they have snow plows out west also. And it don’t take long for what’s on the road to melt. If you use Hwy 2 on the east side there isn’t any real big climbs to consider. Coming down the west side on 93 isn’t bad either and the weather is usually pretty good in October. If you have a small generator to keep your battery charged you can boondock here and there dump when you get a chance. Kalispel May have an open campground. Missoula has a couple Walmart’s and a Cracker Barrel. Go for the adventure be careful and aware.

Glacier National Park is open now with the road to the sun closed along with several campgrounds. All due to wildfire. We live 1 hour south of the park and have been keeping a eye out for any openings. It’s light rain here now and maybe that will be enough to get a handle on all of the fires up there. If they get thing under control I will post the info.
