Mobile Tech vs. Dealer

After having warranty work completed at our dealer in Tampa we got set up in North Fort Myers. Noticed a little discharge from our closed black tank while traveling. A few days later we moved from North Fort Myers to our regular winter site in Fort Myers Beach and noticed it had done the same thing.

Obviously my black tank gate valve is moving while traveling. When stationary it is not discharging anything out of the black tank. I know this because I have my Flush King on and have kept that gate valve closed overnight and in the morning there is no evidence of black tank discharge.

I am not even going to mention this to Keystone prior to my warranty expiring on January 28th. Why would I, they will just want me to schedule it at a dealer, which will probably have to be 3 hours away. I think I will just wait until the first of February and start using my extended warranty and have a mobile tech fix the thing in place. Paying a small deductible will be much cheaper than fuel back and forth to the dealer.

I don't know about the new models, but on ours that was normal until we got rid of the sewer boom. The Keystone installation on mine and others left a low spot somewhere back there and whenever we'd move a little surprise was waiting for me when I opened the end cap. I installed a screw on gate valve when I dumped the boom, others have added the valve and kept the boom, and no more problem. Much cheaper than either the tech or the dealer.

Thanks Dick, maybe I will just secure the Flush King in place and always keep it on. Since I have been using my Flush King again I really like the way I can back flush/fill my black tank after dumping anyway.

I've gotten better service from my mobile tech than the dealer.

We use a screw on gate and got rid of the boom. I still get a little leftovers but now I'm protected when I remove the cap.

I'll always use a mobile tech if possible. Dealers take entirely too long and who knows who is actually working on the rig. With the mobile guys it's usually the guy whose name is on the side of the truck so he has a bit more incentive to do a better job.

I have a check on the way from Keystone for a mobile tech visit under the same circumstances. At first they were not going to pay for the actual service call, just the labor. A new person took over at Keystone Customer Service and he agreed to pay the whole bill.

I will have to have another mobile tech work on the furnace again though, it worked for a few weeks and then started failing again.

Davidaf and DQDick, when you guys say you got rid of the sewer boom and screwed on an extra gate, can you explain or post a photo? I suspect that would be a better way to go than to secure my Flush King.

We have had excellent service at The Keystone Service center and from Mobile Techs not so much at dealers.

I believe Keystone should take a good hard look at using mobile techs on a regular basis ,especially for folks on the road and fultimers. From my experience we wouldn't have to deal with these 2 to 3 week wait times to get in the shop. Just my thought.

I totally agree with that! The mobile tech that initially looked at my furnace, plus a couple down here in Florida that are available, all advertise that they accept the major extended warranty companies. If they can work with them why can't they work with the factory warranty folks. Keystone has to realize by now that they have a serious problem with their dealers backing up the products they are selling.
