Kitchen Backsplash
Being in the tile business, I have always wanted to put some travertine stone on the Monty's kitchen backsplash. We have one stone that would be sooooo beautiful. We think it would be okay as far as staying put. Was interested to know if anyone has ever done this before

Put ceramic tile in our old 5W around the stove. Had about five yrs on it with no problems when we traded it for the Montana.

I think it would look great and if properly installed should last for years.
My only concern is the added weight, a little here a little there and it keeps adding up.
Send us pictures if you get it done.

Those walls have a fair amount of flex to them...how would you get it to stay without cracking? I do like the idea very much - I often look at that wallpaper in the kitchen area thinking there has to be something better.

While at the factory, I asked the rep about cleaning the spash areas around the stove top. He said clean it as you would any other splash area, it is designed with that in mind.
I know that is a little off topic, but we, too, thought about doing something to that area of the kitchen.

I would love to know if this works. The boarder paper around that area is already starting to turn loose and we've only been in the RV 2 yrs.

My wife always puts clear plastic stickem paper around the stove and sink area. On our last trailer it was on for 13 years and you had to look hard to see it. The bathroom sink gets the same treatment.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.
The travertine stone I would like to do is probably a little heavy!
We have one that is your basic 4 1/4" wall tile with a stone look to it.
Put up with mastic, 1/4" grout joints and using the sanded colored caulk
instead of grout, just might be the way to go.
It wouldn't be as much weight as the travertine,
& with having a wider grout joint than normal with that tile
& using mastic & caulk, it should stay put very well
and give me that stone look that I want.
Hmmmm....time to bring home samples !

Some folks have used plexiglass panels to protect the walls around the stove. Lowe's/Home Depot will cut to order - some hold in place with mirror clips.

You might want to check out a product by Congoleum called Duraceramic! It is put down with a special mastic and can be put down with either a joint or it butted up next to each other! We had it put down in our stick kitchen and it looks and feels just like ceramic tile but is just a little thicker than linoleum (spelling ?). The DW and I say it in the flooring section of a furniture store and thought that would be a lot easier to maintain and it it great! Very easy to clean also!

I used 2 plexiglass panels and a plastic channel to hold them at 90dig. Easy to clean.

We use plexiglass put in place by tiny pieces of industrial velcro.
In a colour to match the wall.

Stainless steel works great for us. Easy to clean, fire resistive ,light weight and no more peeling paper.
