Tubes Underneath

Also while at the rally we added 2 6" tubes underneath the Monty. We want to give a BIG THANK YOU to Mike Brown (Gofnuts) and Doug Henry (DHenry) for their assistance. The folding ladder is in one and 20' of sewer hose is in the other. Mike and Doug's help shows the MOC group is truly a family.

Happy trails.......................

I don't recognize the type of holder you are using for the tubes. Does it have a specific name and size? Where did you buy it?

We put a 6" and a 8" tube on.
In the 8" tube we put 80" by 18' rug rolled up.
In the 6" tube we carry the 90 degree end, a 5 foot hose, 15 foot and 20 foot hose all connected and the 45 degree clear elbow all connected.
We use the rear compartment that is marked for sewer hose for all the water hoses and filter, (2) 25 footers, (3) 10 footers and a house hold size water filter.

Mike, the hangers are what we in the heating trade call B vent hangers. You can get them at a HVAC supply house or if you want I can send you some. They cost $6.00 each for 6" hangers plus shipping. If you use schedule 40 the hangers fit great, If you use schedule 80 you have to re-bend the hangers to make them tight.

Doug,
Could you explain what you mean by schedule 40 and schedule 80?

That is the thickness of the pipe. Schedule 40 is thicker and heavier than schedule 80 and naturally the cost is more for 40 than 80.

Thanks Doug. That looks like a very good way to support the pipes.
Think I'll try it.

Doug, I am a little confused with your statement above. I Thought that the OD remains constant (6" pipe is 6.625 OD and 8" is 8.625, and the wall varies by schedule so the ID gets smaller as the schedule number goes up, not down. Schedule 80 has a thicker wall than schedule 40. Schedule 40 is referred to as "standard pipe".

That is if my old steel fabrication and machine shop brain still works.

The OD is not consistant with the different schedules of pvc pipe. I do know for sure the brackets fit great around the schedule 40 PVC pipe I used and the other schedule of pipe that Sue and Michael both used we had to re-bend the bracket as the OD was smaller.

That has to be a real problem for plumbers trying to 'cement' connectors to those things . Stopped by Home Depot today at lunch to see what it would cost to do the same thing (i.e. build and hang a couple of tubes under my unit) and grabbed two different sections of pipe and found some bands. Tried one of them and then for some reason (I don't know why I tried it but I did), I tried the same band on the other piece of pvc pipe -- On one the band was tight around the pipe, the other I could swing the band around like it was greased. Ended up going through the stack of pipe until I got two 'tight' sections. Asked the 'sales clerk' in that area if they were different scheduled (?) pipe - he said no, they were probably just different batches or maybe from different suppliers. Amazing to say the least -- regardless, now I have another 'to do item'.

those bands look good DHenry, I put a couple tubes under my monty awhile back, I bought 1/4 " threaded rod at Home Depot, cost bout $4.00 for nuff to do it. some lock washers and nuts, bent the rod into U-shape easily. after drilling the holes in the frame, tighten them down as needed.

Question: How hard is it to bend the threaded rod so that is does not kink or bind? Does this mean that you had to remove the underbelly so that you could attach the bolts, as opposed to just using self-tappers on the B vent strap?

In reference to the B vent strap, were only two used for each tube?

Sorry for the questions, I am somewhat mechanically challenged.

Mike

We used 3 straps per tube and self tapping screws. Did not remove anything. They did wonderfully in the 700+ miles from Mt. Shasta to home. There are screw caps on both sides.

Its very easy to bend the threaded rod by hand, I used a piece of the tube to bent it, never had to undo nothing underneath, just drill the holes in the edge of frame for the threaded rod.

When mounting the pipe the gas line may be in the way.
If so just cut a groove in the pipe so that it fits up tight to the frame
