Bedroom AC

We've had the bedroom air for almost a week now. Wow, is it great. The main unit seldom runs at night. I've been playing with the two units on different settings to try to find the most efficient to use them. With both running, I'll probably have to take a mortgage out to pay the utility bill. Oh well, gotta stay cool.

Will, what brand is your front A/C? My main, ducted A/C is plenty to maintain a cool 3400, and I like it cool. I might try two - on 50 amp only - if over 100, but don't think I would need 2 A/Cs with anything less. My front is also noisy. That's why I'm curious about your brand. Mine is a Duo-Therm Penguin Lo-Profile. Are you in hot weather?

Mid nineties here. We have the same unit you have (13.5k btu). Not sure it is any noisier than the ducted one if we dump it at the louvers on the unit. Makes nice sleeping noise.

We have the Carrier V. While it makes noise, it actually helps, especially in an area near a highway, etc. And, boy does it cool!

Would you believe? I pulled the control panel cover on the new unit (to get the serial number), and the deadblasted installer did not seal the attic off from the return air. I just don't understand how folks can keep a job and a business going doing such crappy work. I'll pull the air box off today and seal the joists with foil tape. Hmmmm, and just to think I had them install one of those tornado black tank flushes. Wonder now what will happen when I dump and flush the tank. Think I'll stand way back!

If you've never seen what the ceiling joist look like, here's a couple pictures. If that box for the AC is not sealed, return air can come from the attic, and we know how hot attics are.

Oh, and you can see where the craftsman moved the light, and left a piece of ceiling hanging out. The old screw holes are no big deal, as the AC grill covers that.

Slick Willie, thats exactly why I installed the bedroom a/c myself two weeks ago.I bought the Dometic Duo Therm 13,500 btu.It probably took me longer to install than a dealer would take but I sealed all the holes in the metal supports and aluminum taped the duct box and checked and re-checked to make sure everything was sealed correctly.Wired it in and ran it with the ceiling cover off for awhile. This a/c will really cool down the upstairs area in a hurry. Our 5ver was pre-wired and framed for the second a/c.Both units really cool the trailer down fast in the Florida heat.

First of all, welcome aboard. Great info on this site. Our Mountaineer is the first fifth wheel we have ever owned, and I don't know what I would have done without the info these folks supply.

I noticed you said your Mountaineer was prewired and "framed". I am just curious what the extra framing is. Our invoice showed we paid $100 for that, but the build ticket (according to Keystone) said it wasn't framed or wired for the bedroom air. When I quizzed the dealer about the framing, he said they are all framed the same. The roof opening was between two joists, and the sides were framed with 2 x 6 white pine. Looked plenty adequate to me.
