Hot Water Heater Question

Do the 3400's come with only gas hot water heaters, are some gas and electric?

The water heaters have both propane and electric heating elements. The switch inside the coach turns on the propane element. The electric element is on the face of the water heater panel under the outside removable panel. It's a bit hard to see and may have a cotter pin to keep it from being turned on accidentally. Some of us turn the electric element on outside and then use the breaker on the breaker panel inside the coach to turn it on and off.

You can run both elements at the same time or just one (either) of them. Having both on does not get the water hotter but it does allow it to reheat more quickly after a shower, for example.

Be careful that the electric element is never turned on when the water heater is empty. The electric element will burn out in just a few seconds when not covered by water.

I hope this answers your question.

They come with gas/electric heat. Take the cover off the outside of the hot water tank compartment and in the lower left corner is a very small electric ON/OFF switch. Inside the RV is the switch for the gas operation. When you switch it on a very small red light will come on until the gas is ignited. We leave the electric on most all the time and if we need a quicker recovery will turn on the gas at the same time. Works great when doing dishes and several showers at the same time of the day.

Just make sure that they are both off when draining the hot water tank and don't turn back on until you are sure it is full.
Good luck
