Check battery boxes

Today I was showing a neighbor the 3000rk.Its been home 11 days. I saw a small damp spot on the driveway,under the batteries. I pulled them out, and the extra battery that I had added at the dealer was leaking. The 1/4 inch, self tapping hex-head screws that,secures the battery box, had worn through the bottom of one of the batteries.
I'll call the dealer tomorrow. Check your batteries, Bill

Thanks for the heads-up Bill, I'll check this weekend during daylight hours. It's kinda dark and cold when I leave the house, and the same when I get home.

My problem with the battery box was a little different but results were the same. I filled the cells and put in a little too much water. When the battery came to full charge the excess ran over into the bottom of the box. Normally this is what the box is supposed to do, contain any overflow to prevent damage.

In this case the "black" self tapping screws in the bottom of the box were no competition for the sulfuric acid. The heads were destroyed, the screw part fell out leaving a hole that the acid ran out into the bottom of the front compartment and me with a loose battery box. I cleaned up, repainted the bottom of the compartment and replaced the destroyed screws with 304 stainless screws.

Check your battery box!!!!

Sounds like the battery boxes you guys are using does not have recessed holes so the bolt head does not do that. May want to use counter sunk screw heads to help elevate the problem.
