Question on sllide switch

We have a 2012 3100RL we bought in Sept. 2014. It has 3 slides and one switch for the 3 slides. The slides will come in one at a time. As we bring the slides in, the slide will stop for a second, we notice the lights in the camper will go out when the slide stops. This happens with all 3 slides. It only lasts about 1-2 seconds, then the lights will come back on and the slide will start to retract again. Is this normal or is there something we need to check out?

As always, thanks for your input.

Steve

Sounds like a bad auto reset breaker. This is likley located in the battery area on the back wall and is a 40 amp breaker. As they go bad they begin to trip more and more. I got information from the forum and found th fix is to replace them with two new 40 amp breakers in series or one 80 amp breaker. I replaced mine last fall and have had no problem since. A search of the forum will even show pictures of the problem and how to wire the double 40 amps which is cheaper than the single 80 amp breaker

Bad auto reset circuit breakers and stalling slides has been discussed often here. But that is the first I remember of anyone mentioning lights going off. The only thing on my slide breaker is the slide pump. Maybe your lights are on the same breaker.

Here is one previous discussion about it.

I would check your battery first. If it's original it's likely 3 years or more old. The breaker would be the next thing to check. If it's happening in cold weather than Keystone replaced ours under warranty with an 80amp one and we haven't had an issue since.

Thanks folks,
We replaced the battery shortly after we purchased the camper, so the battery is new. The Lippert recommendation on the previous thread that Bill linked says wiring and breaker to be supplied by RV manufacturer. Will I need to up-grade the wiring if I go to an 80 amp auto reset breaker?
Thanks
Steve

Our 2012 3402RL came with the larger cable so the only fix needed was a new 80 amp breaker. Since the fix, we have had no issues with the jacks or slides.

You can go to any auto parts store like O'Reily's, NAPA or any others and get the higher amperage auto reset breaker. I did so back a few years back for our 2004 2980 and replaced it then. Had not other problems from that point on. Our lights used to dim but not go out when we had the lower amperage breaker also when the slides would stop also.

Your wiring should be fine for the 80amp. Mine was a 2010 they replaced under warranty.

Hi

With all of the problems I have had with this trailer the slides have been trouble free and are still working on the 40 amp breaker.

This is one I will have to add to richfaa’s post about good things!

Thanks folks for all of the input. Going to buy the breaker and will have a project next time we take it out.

If you plan to use 2 40A breakers, be sure to wire them in parallel, not series as previously posted.

Changing to a higher amp breaker is a questionable move. Replacing the breaker with one of the same amperage might be your first move. If your slides once worked with the original and are now not working there is most likely something else wrong. Most slides work with 30 or 40 amp breakers just fine. The breaker protects the motors and wiring from over-current. Have a friend that is an electrician check it out for you. It may be as simple as corrosion somewhere in the wiring.

Good Luck

paulinbaja - If this were an isolated case I would agree with you. But it has been a common problem for many of us. And the fact the manufacturer has authorized the modification validates the problem and the change.
