Shower!

Sorry for so many questions but you have been more helpful than the keystone customer service! Went to take a shower in new RV and shower would not drain. There was a paper sticky dot, removable, with a pen written "D" on it. My husband looked down the drain and found a white membrane covering the drain. So, he pierced it and now the shower works! Anyone heard of this? Thanks so much once again!

I am thinking the drain was covered during construction to keep sawdust etc. from going down the drain and one of the Amish craftsman forgot to remove and your dealer did not check the shower

Piercing the white membrane may have been a mistake. I did the same thing early on and then learned that the shower in our rig doesn't have a P trap, it has one of these mounted in the basement on the ceiling: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004A2YFG4/...I3DCK7579T6JLC If that's what it is, the good news is it's easy to replace.

Yep, the white membrane is commonly called a joker valve in the boating world where it is used in marine toilets. Mine has let in tank odors more than it has worked correctly. And sometimes, after not using it when we go away from the monte for a week, it will not let water out of the shower until it is ankle deep...then drains big time. Having lived with this since we bought, I am now getting ready to put in a good, old-fashioned p trap. John

The shower would barely drain at all! Would not have been able to use it!

If you did pierce the joker valve then the water is draining into the bottom of your rig. You should see it running out of the bottom eventually.

Hi

My experience is about the same as DQDick the roof vent on our Montana had been capped on the production line and when we tried to use the shower the tub filled with water. I looked and saw what looked to be a paper towel in the drain. So being industrious I got a pair of needle nose pliers and pulled it out. This is where it gets funny, the gray tank had pressure in it probably form a barometric pressure change and it blew water all over me. I had damaged the bladder in the drain pipe that is used instead of a “P” trap.

Keystone would not cover this under the warranty even thought the trailer was only a month old.

Not on these valves. The membrane is enclosed inside a plastic case so all that happens is that you can and probably will get tank and/or sewer oder back into the shower.

If it were me, I'd replace the valve and see. Worked for us. The other thing we did was begin to use a stainless screen on all our drains. With the amount of hair and stuff we have to clean out of that screen all the time it's no wonder the valve can stick shut occasionally. Here's what I mean by screenshttp://www.amazon.com/Camco-42273-Assorted-Shower-Strainers/dp/B000T9YO5E/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1428161329&sr= 1-2&keywords=rv+sink+strainer

Thanks DQDick. My husband traced the water flow in the pipe after he did this and he did not put a hole in the pipe. The water was almost ready to overflow in the shower even though I was using the water intermittently. Something wasn't right! Funny thing about the green paper sticky dot next to the drain with the penned,"D" on it? Wonder why that was there? He plans on replacing it! We did put the screen over the drain too as I have long thick hair that sheds!
