Battery - remove for winter?
As a newbie I was wondering if I should remove my battery and take it inside and charge during the winter?
I have a 3400RL being pulled with a Dodge 2500 Heavy Duty Turbo Diesel

I remove mine and take it in the garage and every once in a while hook up to charger, some people have trickle chargers they hook them up to. Cold weather is hard on batteries epecially if they are not being used.

If your battery looses its charge and freezes it will ruin it. So if that is a possibility keep it where it can trickle charge. Larry

I have a set up where I can leave the Monty plugged in when not in use so the converter can maintain the batteries.

Take a look at Battery Tender. They even make a solar powered version. I have used their products for years to keep my motorcycle, boat and RV batteries in an optimized state. When I take my Montana to the storage building I always disconnect the batteries and put them on the tender. Here is a link to the website. There is a lot of good information about batteries here. Yes..thank-you for your replies...I do use a battery tender on my Goldwing Motorcycle. So I will take out the battery from the RV at the storage lot and bring home and bring into my heated garage.

Or you do like some of us and take your Monty someplace warm, and u along with it of course. As for the Battery Tender, yep that's what's on the car home in the garage.

Our unit is stored out in the weather over the winter. I take the batteries out and store them in the garage up off the concrete floor!

I've bookmarked the page for the solar powered chargers. I need a charging solution for the batteries at the storage lot. I have 2 six volt batteries and those things are heavy! I dislike pulling them out when I put it in storage and installing them again in the Spring. I'd like to just chase the sun but that won't happen for another 4 years. I'm thinking about how to place the solar panel in the window and run the charging wire to the disconnected batteries. Ideas anyone?

I currently remove mine and keep them in my garage on a battery tender which works great. I am looking for a better solution.
BTW, in your picture of your rig, the truck looks nose high. Is that just a result of the angle that the picture was taken?

The boat batteries are in the basement where there is a cool but constant temperature. They are also on a slow charge to keep the voltage at proper levels. Don't forget to look at the water once a month and use distilled water to fill. The camper batteries are still being used with the camper plugged in till we move south.

CORattler - you could rig up a 12 volt plug for your charger wire and plug it into a 12 volt outlet (I have 2 in the bedroom and one in the basement). But then you would have to leave the battery disconnect switch in the on position. Other option might be to run wires direct to the battery or to the fuse panel, or you could rig up another 12 volt outlet that is hooked up to the battery side of the disconnect switch in the convenience center, and turn the disconnect to "off". Think I like that last option best.
