Black Tank Handle

Well it happened, I can still pull the handle out but the valve does not open. When I open the belly can I expect to be able to open it up from there? Or am I s*@t out of luck? pun intended.

George and Karin,
Do you mean that nothing comes out when you pull the handle? Can you somehow tell that the gate is not opening? Most often when you get no discharge you have a blocked outlet. There are several discussions on this issue (blocked outlet) here on the forum. Good luck. Dennis

Yes nothing comes out. I flushed last week, and on my last flush I went to open it and the flush water did not come out. I thought maybe there wasn't enough water so I just filled a little and added my Black tank chemicals. But today when I went to flush again nothing.

Does the handle feel like it's pulling something or is it loose. If it doesn't feel like it's pulling something the cable could have come loose, otherwise I'd have to agree with the blockage.

No, it feels loose. Do you think it broke? (snapped) or (unscrewed) will I be able to reattach it?
Im thinking my only option is going to be having the tank pumped out and then cutting off and replacing the valve.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but believe the cable terminates at the valve with a sleeve that is attached to the valve stem/shaft with set screws or some other form of clamping device. If you are lucky, you may just have to reattach the cable to the shaft. You still should be able to access the shaft to be able to move the valve open to dump the tank without connecting the cable. It would be advisable to get a valve that can be connected to the waste connection where you connect your waste hose, this way you can get the valve open, then dump using the added outside valve.

I had my black tank valve out last summer to remove a blockage at the blade. I am sure this was the make used in my Monty.

Not great pictures on the website, but the pull cable can be replaced so you should be able to be replace or re-attache it.

Good luck

You can do like I did when my valve was getting stiff to pull I cut a hole with a Xacto knife in the underbelly so I could see the valve and to get enough room to get my hand up there and spray lube on the valve as my wife pulled and pushed the handle in and out and my cable worked fine ever since, at least by cutting a access hole you can see what the problem is , ever now and again I lube it up and patch the access hole back up with Gorilla duct tape

You need to drop the belly cover and get access to the valve sounds like the cable has detatched from the valve

That is exactly what happened to me, with the same symptoms. When I originally installed new pull cables, made them too tight. Was able to reconnect, without any replacement parts. the underbelly was easy to drop.

What temps are you in? I had a frozen handle, which I got unfroze, but then had a frozen tank. All the time I was ready to start cutting out the underbelly. I am sure glad I didn't. In my case I ran enough heat it all unfroze. Could the metal handle rod that attaches to the cable assembly have possibly pulled out. RV dealers have either 2 or 3 different length handle/rods for black tanks. If your handle came off that assembly maybe you can get another one through the hole and attach it without opening up the bottom.

First thing I would do is check the metal rod end and see if the cable is still attached. If that's the problem that's the least invasive thing to check and fix.

Well took the Belly down and after about 30 min of trying to figure out how to get the Black cover off the cable. I could tell its still connected. So Im guessing Blockage Now.

How do I tackel that? I tried a snake no help, just a yucky mess.

I think Home Depot sells a saddle you could put on the dump line before the last valve. That way you could shut the last dump valve and push water back into the tank. That would be one choice or you could have a pump truck hook on to your dump and let him put a vacumn on the line and that should clear the blockage...
