Gas Struts for door over micro
I have seen discussions on gas struts associated with other topics, but using "search" I am not able to locate them. Our new 2013 Montana 3100RL has a compartment above the combo convection/microwave oven with a door that is hinged from the top. There is nothing to hold the door open while trying to access this compartment. No idea why Keystone doesn't put them on at the factory! Hoping someone who has found the right size gas strut to put on this door to hold it open will respond. Thanks in advance.

Rich, I checked JR Products on Amazon. Found the struts. Comes in a 2-pack, but I don't see where it gives the dimensions of the struts. How did you find they were 6.25 inches long?

Also, one of the comments said these were too big for small doors. The door above our micro is pretty small. Haven't measured it, but guessing it's about 10 inches tall.

I looked on the JR products web site..CW .also has a product listed at 6.25 inches but cost a bit more.

Watch out for the different attachment methods. Some have feet and others have just a screw. The six or seven of us who have done this used the CW version.

I bought a few sets at camping world, now if I can just get them installed. The only question I have is whether the screws are short enough for the cabinet doors or does a person need to use alternative ones.

Forest River uses those small type of doors on most of their new Class C's and has nice struts on them. A Forest River Dealer should be able to order them.

Bingo: Those CW ones have screws which are perfect for the cabinet depth. You *WILL* want to pre-drill the holes with a bit just shy of the screw diameter. Rub the screw on a bar of soap before you install it. That wood is hard!

No I dsid not but the deminisions were listed at a site we looked at and another MOC member jrbone has them. Think I will get them at CW as it will be quicker and with the 10% discount about the same price.

The wood is hard enough to break a screw even with a pilot hole... Be careful!!!!
HD also has a suitable device.... if scew length is an issue use small washers.....

Thanks for the installation advice. Plan on installing the struts on our eight!!! vertical cabinets while at the beach. What were the designers thinking? Four in the bedroom and four over the dining table!!

Be sure and mark your drill bit with tape at the desired depth so that you don't go thru the door! Also, install the door end first then open the door (to about a quarter of an inch from the ceiling) and mark where the screw holes in the other end meet the frame. That's the correct placement for proper operation. Then make a template for the hole positions in the door and the frame. This makes life a lot easier. I took the bedroom doors off and installed that end (using the template for position) then re-installed the doors and put the frame screws in. Much easier than bouncing on the bed on your knees trying to fight gravity!

Sent a pic please. If they're installed correctly, there's no way they won't hold the door up .... the internal spring in the strut is just too strong not to do so!

Large end up is how we installed them although I don't really know why it would make a difference.
