Lost a Wheel - Help...

On my last trip I had tire problems, slow leak. Had to change while moving between locations, cranked the leaky tire up in the spare slot and mounted the spare. All was well for the next week until the drive home... when I got home the spare was missing. I feel like that mayhem commercial, there must have been some issues behind me and I pray no one was hurt.

Anyway... now I need to find a new aluminum rim. I attached a picture of the original. Does anyone know where I can get an exact replacement? Trek wood has one but it comes with a China bomb and it is way overpriced. If I can’t find an exact match I will buy two for that side so they at least look ok.

Try Tredit, they are the supplier of that wheel to Montana and are good to deal with.

Was it due to the slow leak, and getting loose , or did that cheap cable system break. Since I have had the Sailun as a spare instead of the OE, I'm concerned with how reliable that thin cable ,and mechanism is. These Sailuns are much heavier then that old OE spare.

I am wondering if there is some safety cable or whatever to insure that spare stays up there. I check the tightness all the time .

The tire had a slow leak. When I cranked it up the tire was at about 90 psi. My theory is that the tire was ballooned out when cranked up tight then slowly lost air, became loose unwinding the cable a little more and bounced off. I was driving on I-4 north of Orlando in some serious construction and very bumpy. Likely lost it during that pounding.

As for security I have seen other posts saying they use a ratchet strap or some means to add security to the tire. I will be adding something, just not sure what yet. Anyone have ideas for us?

I have never lost a spare but read enough stories on here about people that have. Since early ownership of the 5'er I have always used a ratchet strap on the spare. Two years ago in Fla. I had to get the spare down. Was surprised, despite all the dirt and grime how easy the ratchet released. If you go this route try and find a black strap as the orange and yellow stick out like a sore thumb.

After reading about your lost tire, I started a new thread about securing it, there have been a few good suggestions. You might want to take a look at it.

I have never been too fond of that spare tire carrier, after reading about yours,I am a lot less now. I will do something to make sure it doesn't come off.

Great find Bob, thanks. Tredittire referred me to “trailer set go” who distributes that wheel. Wheel alone is $128 and they agreed to mount a new Sailun tire on it for a total of $290. Free shipping. If you need wheels check these guys out.

I will book make this page. That price is lower than the tire alone from the RV dealer.

I just picked up a replacement wheel and tire at the Tredit warehouse in Plant City Fl. They have replacement in stock. I also bought a Sailun spare at the same time.
