Styrofoam skirting going up!

That 4-letter word (S N O W) is in our forecast for tomorrow and Thursday, and we are going to be caught once again with the skirting not finished. We would have gotten it all on last weekend except that rain moved in on Saturday, and every day since then we've had more rain. So, the first flurries and snow showers of the winter are going to roll in before we're ready. The snow won't accumulate--the daytime temperatures are going to be too warm for that--but still, there's no doubt that winter is moving into Montana already.

We have our skirting on and winter water and sewer hoses ready to go. We had snow forecast for Friday, but I see that has changed to sunshine. Boo. Enjoy the snow! I'm sure we're close behind!!

While you're busy putting up skirting, we're starting to get ready to Winterize the S&B and start heading South before the nasty white stuff happens.

Jim, we purchased a rubber hose just like what you see on the "elephant trucks" that cities use when they have to open up a manhole cover to clean out sewers. Ours is green and black rubber. We bought it from a rubber supplier in Anchorage. It's heavy duty instead of that slinky plastic mess. I would go out and take a picture of the set up but it's pouring rain...

You can have your cake and eat it too, you know!!! That is why most are called 'snowbirds'.

Rondo, our original plans included making Texas our home base again, but by late September of last year, I was really missing the change of seasons, the cooler temperatures, and the young grandkids we left behind in Montana. We did stay 9 months in Texas, working as volunteer RV park hosts, but when I found myself scrubbing picnic tables in my shorts, tank top, and flip-flops on December 23rd, I knew something was wrong with that picture!

We returned to Montana and are wintering at the KOA park in Dillon, not the best place to be since when it's cold, because the park has only 30-amp service; there's no possibility of using a space heater to help warm the Monty. Still, Montana feels more like home right now than Texas did.

So, we're anchored in Dillon for a while again. I've even come out of retirement and gone back to work as a medical receptionist/transcriptionist 3 1/2 days a week for a friend who needed someone to replace a retiring employee who formerly held that job.

We did finish the skirting yesterday, and today, with the temperature this morning at 32 degrees, our timing was just about right. Our neighbors are still working on the skirting for their rigs. One man is cutting plywood panels to fit around the base of his rig, and another couple is using double-sided tape to attach a vinyl skirt they made to fit their rig. (They bought vinyl-backed fabric at JoAnn's.) A note to anyone using tape to attach skirting: The RVs here that had tape as part of their skirting system all have ugly strips of tape residue left around the bottom of their RVs from last year's taping/skirting. One young couple taped over some of their graphics, and when they pulled off the skirting, pieces of the graphics came away with the tape.

Getting ready for Winter here, too, in NJ. Heat tape on the hose plugged in and hose wrapped. Farmer's Almanac says we're looking at cold, wet and white this Winter.

Betty,

Good to see y'all are hunkering down for Old Man Winter.....we will be heading in about a month and will be spending the winter in the Catskills about 15 min from Hunter Mountain. Have to sat the squirrels certainly got some big fat furry tails so we are figuring for a white winter for sure. Hopefully the weather is good later in January as we head out to Quartzite for the rally.

Stay warm

Les

I'm winterizing also. Packing up to leave the cold behind. Fl. is better than N. Mn.

I would think it would help a lot if you also added the foam boards to the top of the slides. I don't think they have much insulation up there and heat goes up so the loss is worse at the top. Just a thought. Tho maybe it would trap moisture and cause problems??? Stay warm.

Keep snow off the slides at all times if you do not have a roof structure on the slides or toppers, the melt water WILL find a way in if it cant drain off. we found that out in Memphis with our SOB

I built toppers for my 5er. Used a 2x4 on end for the outside and a 2x8 on end for the roof side. Put 1in foam board on the top and sides. Sever weather foil tape to seal out the moisture. I also completely covered the sides of my slides.

On the Other Hand

Just drug the fiver back from Branson ... after tomorrow, I'll be ready for cold weather as well. Drained the WH, blew out the lines, added antifreeze to the P-Traps. Washed the outside and spruced up the inside yesterday. I'll take her up to my 18' by 42' RV port tomorrow. I'll be hanging around the ole stick and brick till next Spring just itching to write November's natural gas payment in a few weeks.
