Ladder for the RV -- extension, A-frame, multi

I was going to get an Xtend & Climb telescoping ladder, but the one I needed (type 1A, 300 lbs duty rating) costs $235 for the model 780P and it weighs 32 lbs.

But I still wanted an A-frame step ladder in addition to an extension ladder.

I just ran across the Little Giant Megalite M17 multi-ladder at Costco and it's on-sale for $109.99 after instant savings. This is a really, really good price.

I was trying to stay away from multi-ladders because they're usually heavy. But this Megalite model is 31 lbs, weighing in 1 lb lighter than the Xtend & Climb. It's a type 1A (300 lbs duty rating) and extends to 15', 2.5' longer than the Xtend & Climb. Plus it's a 4'-7' A-frame step ladder.

It does take up more space, so that's the trade-off. Weight is the same, actually 1 lb lighter.

The sign at Costco says the deal expires on June 9, 2019.

Little Giant is a good brand. Costco must have gotten a great deal. If I needed one I'd jump on it.

My only concern would be the length. At 15' it might be too short. Don't forget you have to stand it at roughly 75 degrees which means the top of the ladder will be close to the top of your roof in that application. The math says you have about 18" of ladder left. You might find that uncomfortably awkward if you need to get on the roof that way. I'd feel better with a 17 foot ladder myself... but that is just me.

The primary reason for the ladder for me is to get to the top of the slides to brush the leaves and twigs off, without having to climb up on the roof. Also, to do any washing of the rig.

If it's too short to reach the roof and climb off onto the roof, then I would just use the built in ladder on the stern. I could even use this ladder propped up against the stern ladder to go up most of the way.

It's a fair point. I'll have to measure the actual roof height so I can do the sine calculations. I think it's a lot shorter at the stern than the bow. The Montana Mountaineer 347THT specs say the height is 12'9" but I wonder if that includes the air-conditioner.

But I thought any ladder intended for RV use HAD to be bought from Camping World! You're in trouble now.

Bought my multi ladder from Harbor Freight it’s 17’
Weight is 35# and extends above roof enough to use.
Carry in the bed of the truck between hitch and tailgate.
Never use a ladder to wash camper use a telescope fiberglass painters pole.

I have a telescoping pole for washing the RV, but it doesn't reach the top 2' of the front nosecone of the RV. I would just use the ladder to get 2' higher to reach that part. Or back my truck up to it and stand in the truck bed.

The telescoping pole I have is from Harbor Freight, it's a telescoping wash pole, you connect a hose to the end of it and it supplies water to the brush head. I got a better a brush head than the HFT brush head it came with. Works pretty good!
