It seams to me we are having much less trouble with the frames than we used to whether Lippert or Lipitor makes them. Pun intended at me. It would be very expensive to make a frame or anything else that would not break. I think they have done a good job of designing and building a good affordable camper that we can buy. It's not perfect but who would won't to pay for perfection.

With the reference to Lipitor another comes to mind! Maybe Lippert should add some Viagra to their frames! HAHAHA

I have a 2010 Montana 3400RL. I have towed it less than 3k miles since new. I have major 5th wheel pin frame problems. The wall in the front closet has shattered due to the movement and stress. I tow it with a Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I purchased this unit so that when I retired my wife and I could travel the US. I am now retired and have major frame issues and can't tow my coach! I have had many problems with this Montana and am very upset!!!!!

Buy ANY 5th wheel product and cross your fingers and pray that it doesn't fall apart. Some of us have luck and some don't.

Although when someone says 'broke frame' and a lot of people panic, it usually isn't the end of the world, or the trailer for that matter. Any good RV repair facility should be able to fix it properly and permanently. The problem is finding the 'good RV repair facility', and of course paying for the repair. If you happen to live within towing distance of the Montana factory, they are the best place to get it repaired. Otherwise, see what's available in your area and look for references from people who have had similar problems fixed by any near by shops.

I'm quite surprised that insurance got involved with this. i guess i need to review my insurance coverage. i would have thought that this was a non covered issue.

And there is a better frame design made by lippert...it is just that it isn't used on the montana due to the extra cost and weight. And this translates to needing a tv that can handle it. I keep looking to see if anyone is towing what is made on this frame with a srw or 250/2500 but haven't seen it yet. No one should have a frame problem...but they do happen for whatever reason...still doesn't make it any easier to live with. Best thing we can say to those that do have the issue..."bummer dude". A have seen Viagra brand frames and the biggest issue that they are having with them is finding the right amount of rigidity at the hitch box to front basement beam connection. It seams that too much rigidity causes embrittlement and cracking at the critical weld joints; too little causes sag and droop at the horizontal beam junction.

Just to add my 2 cents on the Swivel Wheel....I have a 2007 3400RL and have had the swivel wheel on her for 7 years now. I carry a Vstar 950 on her and its been to Maine and back and up the Alaskan Highway and back and all points in between with NO problems. I love the thing and having our bike with us is great!

And I had an uncle who smoked for years without any problems at all. Then one day he up and died from lung cancer. Go figure.

This thread was opened in 2014. Around 2005 they added gussets to address that issue.
