Water question

Hello has anyone put clean water in holding tank. And not filled hot water heater. Just use water heater bypass like you were going to put antifreeze in for winter. So I didn't have to put plug in hot water heater. Just need cold water for sinks and toilet. And can I run pump to do this with no harm? Thanks everyone

Whether you are on city water or using the pump makes no difference, as long as the check valve on the hot water outlet of the water heater tank is working. If the check valve is working, and the bypass valve, which is just an on or off valve for the cold water side of the water heater, is working, there should be no water entering the tank. Just make sure every switch and breaker for the electric side is turned off so you don’t accidentally burn out the electric element when there is no water in the tank.

What you want to do will work fine.
FYI They do make a anode/drain valve combo that empties the tank with the turn of a petcock. No more plug to remove. Easy peasy.
