Fireplace problem

Well, I've searched like crazy, and can't find any other posts regarding this issue. The other night my fireplace quit working. Lights don't work, heater doesn't work...dead, dead, it's dead. I checked the breaker, checked the fuse, checked the GFI...yada yada yada. Since I had to be out on the road anyway to move into this new park, I went to Gooding RV since they're a Montana dealer. The guy pulled the fireplace out, and it has power going to it, it's just dead. He scratched the hell out of the holes trying to get the bungs out....I deal with him later.

Of course, my luck being as it is...my Montana is just over 13 months old. Which means Keystone won't cover it. According to the pamphlet I have, the fireplace has a 2 year limited warranty. So, now I'm waiting for the dealership to call me back and let me know if the fireplace people are going to cover it or not. I have a 7 year extended service contract, but I hate having to fork out $100 for the deductible. C'mon, shouldn't the fireplace last longer than 13 months? Anyone else had any problems with these Dimplex fireplace people, and if so...what was the outcome? Any advice, thoughts, or past experiences sure would be appreciated. Thanks y'all...

I had the same problem only after 3 months. I called the Dimplex folks and they had me a new one for me. I can't think of the ladies name but it is on here somewhere. My neighbor had the same problem after there Montana was 2 years old and they too sent her a new one. Someone will come along with her name soon.

Wonder what breaks? Had ours apart and they are real "low-tech".

Brad, On mine it was the plug on the round cage that turns to move the heat. You are on target with the low tech. The cage looks like a paint roller with a plug on the end.

Jan

We also have the Dimplex that we installed ourselves. Like Brad said it is pretty low-tech, I also took ours apart before installing it.

We are going to the MOC get together this Thursday see you there. You can let us know how you came out with the fix.

Open it up - you may find that the 110v lead wires are burned as I posted about a year ago. Unplug the fireplace, remove the top (there are many, many screws) and follow the 110v wires into the unit. Here, you will find a connector block and this is where the hot side wire may be burned and not making contact, anymore.

Also, since Dimplex has a 2 year warranty and they are responsive, call them. Their contact information is: http://www1.dimplex.com/contact.aspx

Had a problem with Dimplex too, they were very responsive, sent the new parts that day.....they didn't even ask when or where I bought the product. Michaels information is accurate, but make sure you call real early in the day, they are a busy company. Make sure you have the model number and the serial number before calling.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for all of your feedback. I heard back from the dealership today...Dimplex is sending out the part they feel is defective directly to me here at the RV park. Once it arrives, they will schedule a tech to come out and fix it. Sounds pretty accommodating to me...I sure hope it works out as good as it looks on paper...LOL I'll let y'all know how it goes...

Dimplex has been very good to us. They have sent us two squirrel cage heaters and also the front glass (it broke one morning). I would encourage you or your technician to check the power block connector, as this caused great consternation for us when it started to burn the electrical wire insulation.

Also, don't run the fireplace unless you are present...

Sorry for your problem. Good news is, DIMPLEX is very helpful in getting your fireplace fixed. Our "Flame Motor" died and they shipped the parts to us at the Fall Rally. We couldn't line up a tech to perform the repair while there and made arrangements once we returned to Virgina. All at no cost and no hassle.

It was a nice surprise to get a call yesterday from a guy named Johnny. He's the tech who will come out to fix the fireplace once the part comes in to me here at the CG. This efficiency just sounds too good to be true...LOL I need the fireplace more than ever before what with this very nasty cold spell here in the Rio Grande Valley, so I sure hope it all gets fixed sooner than later. My birdies are a little confused by the fogged up windows and constant furnace running goin' on here...LOL
