Ceiling Fan and Light
2016 Montana 3711FL.
Here is one for you electrical folks.
I am trying to figure out why the ceiling fan and light in the kitchen area has stopped working.
All other lights and plugs (including all GFI plugs) work just fine. In fact, everything else in the trailer works just fine.
Here's what I have done.
Checked all breakers.
1. Removed the ceiling fan and checked the voltage on the black and white (hot and neutral) wires that are in the ceiling. Shows 124v on meter (same as all the other wall plugs that I checked).
2. Connected a small table lamp as well as a 3-prong voltage checker to the wires in the ceiling. Neither of these worked either.
3. When the table lamp was connected to the wires in the ceiling, I checked the voltage with my meter and noticed that the voltage dropped to almost zero.
I have tried to find a wiring diagram online but have been unable to locate one.
I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

Are you sure the big rocker switch in your control panel cabinet is switched to on?

Well, in my defense, it's a new (to me) trailer. :-)
Yes, that's what it was! Thank you.
P.S. I've now labeled it as "Ceiling Fan". Geez!

You're not the first to be baffled by the unmarked switch! Glad it was easy.

If you had measured the hot wire to ground, it would have not indicated voltage present.

Sounds like a loose connection somewhere. Possibly on the switch itself or on the circuit breaker. A loose connection can cause you to get a voltage reading but when the circuit is loaded ( You hooked up your lamp )
The voltage appears to disappear. This is voltage with no current.
I've seen a defective breaker do this also.

Well, actually, it would show the correct voltage. The reason it would is because back at the meter panel, the ground and neutral are tied together. Under normal operation, the ground does not carry current and is not supposed to, but the neutral and hot legs are the current carrying conductors. So, when checking an outlet, you will be able to prove the ground and neutral connections are good by connecting to a hot leg with one lead and touching either the ground or neutral with the other lead and getting the same voltage reading.
