Dish Satellite Antenna Question

This question is for the folks that use Dish Network 1000.2 manual dish to receive their TV signal. Is this primarily for folks that stay in a spot for longer periods or does it work well for those that move regularly? Can you have it up and running in 15 minutes when you set up at a new campsite?

I am currently using a Tailgater that works well unless I am in a heavily treed area where a long cable run might get a clear line of site to satellites. I am also considering adding an X2 that gives the option of east or west satellites plus would give me 2 TVs at the same time without requiring both channels to be on the same satellite.

Trees are a problem no matter what dish you have. I just ordered a 1000.2 that I will permanently mount at a property where we keep the trailer. The 1000.2 can also be mounted on a tripod. From what I have learned it can be set up in 15 to 30 minutes using a tripod, but that’s only what I’m hearing. The learning curve should shorten the time with experience. There are a lot of videos online. We also have an X2. It does have two cable outlets if you have two receivers. Works very well.

We are full timers and use the Dish Network 1000.2 feeding a Hopper3 and are very happy with this method. We have both EA and WA Hybrid LNBs which gives us more chances of finding a signal. The 1000.2 is mounted on a surveyor's tripod using a mount purchased from tv4rv.com and normally takes 10-15 minutes to set up and be watching tv. I have run as much as 150' of coax to get out from under trees.

If you really want complete flexibility for two receivers you need the big antenna. The X2 doesn't do what you want. Here is the technical description of how the X2 (and all the other automatic antennas) work:

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Winegard Pathway X2 Satellite Antenna - For DISH

Item 22-1188 | MFR# PA-6002
Designed for reception of DISH satellite TV programming, the Pathway X2 antenna offers a whole new look at automatic satellite TV acquisition.
Dish HD Portable Satellite TV Antenna Acquires all DISH satellites for COMPLETE programming.
  • Automatically finds and toggles between DISH satellites from Eastern Arc (61.5 deg, 72.7 deg) or Western Arc satellites orbitals (110 deg, 119 deg, 129 deg)
  • Seamlessly view different channels on two TVs* (second receiver needed)
  • Powered through compatible DISH receiver (411, ViP211, Vip211k, ViP211z, or Wally) (required, sold separately)
  • Works with your current DISH subscription
  • No contract required with Pay-as-you-go option
*Multiple receivers must watch programming from the same satellite, Pathway X2 antenna receives programming from 1 satellite at a time and moves between satellites as needed.

I do second the recommendation for the TV4RV tripod when using a large antenna. I have had one for 7 years and can be setup in 15 minutes or less (usually less).

Thanks all. Any issue using it with a pair of 211s or do I need different receivers? Will it work siting on top of the rig if that gives better line of sight?

Other than a tripod and a sat finder app on my phone are their other accessories needed?

For me.......the longest has been 15 minutes........quickest has been 5 minutes. Use my 1000.2 dish with a Hopper 2 and a wireless Wally on a TVRV tripod.

I too vote for tripod. Once you get the hang of it, itís really quick to set up. I have a tailgater at home, collecting dust for a host of reasons.

Yes, the 211ís work. In fact ALL dish receivers work with the tripod. You do need the latest lnb to get 4K however.
