If you are staying in the rig every night running the furnace at night should keep the belly warm enough when moving during the day. If you are real concerned that it is too cold you can run the furnace as you go down the road. We have done that on a couple of occasions when moving south after Christmas. Set the thermostat to fifty and roll on.

Blow it out at least! wind chill factor when driving can freeze things up pretty quick!

This may be a dumb question, but will the furnace work on battery power with propane turned on, of course. If not plugged in overnight, can we stay warm on battery power?

Yes it works off propane, 12v is just to light it off and run the fan, how long the fan runs depends on how much battery power is available.

Yes, it will run just fine on the battery. The fan drains juice at a pretty good rate, though, so be aware of this.

Danny and Sally,
Unless you are going to have extended temps below the 20s you should be good. Make sure and run your furnace vice fireplace or heat pump at night to warm your tanks and lines. The rig retains a fair amount of heat.

Just a word of caution, unplug your 5'er from your truck when parked over night. It will drain your truck battery also if left connected. Don't ask me how I know but it gets pretty cold in Jasper Canada at night in October.

Some trucks block the flow of electricity when the truck is not running, preventing a battery drain. While you are connected and driving, there will be flow to the rig, which should run the furnace. That said, I always disconnect at night. I would also avoid running the furnace or water heater while fueling. I suppose the fridge could be a haxard as well, but I’ve never shut it off.

I do both. I blow out the lines good wih my air compressor with the anode stick removed to air dry heater. Turn my water heater bypasson. Then add pink by way of water pump. This way I know all the low lines are protected. Don't forget the sink traps shower and toilet!!!!
