North & South Dakota Travel

We are headed out, in May, on our first "real" rv vacation for a month. I'm looking for any insights, cautions, recommendations on routes & campsites in North Dakota and South Dakota. We will be entering North Dakota from the East at Grand Forks. Our plan is to head to Teddy Roosevelt Reserve in the western part of the state and then South to Mt Rushmore in South Dakota. Thanks in advance!

We stayed at the Fort Lincoln State Park near Bismark (actually Mandan). We enjoyed visiting the Lewis and Clark sites nearby. Their site for the first winter is just north of Bismark.

We stayed in town for our visit to T. Roosevelt South Unit. Not a particularly good campground but it was just a place to stay overnight. We drove through the park in the afternoon.

Our route was opposite to yours. We came up from the Black Hills to N.Dakota and went straight across to the east, exiting at Fargo.

In East Grand Forks(Minnesota) there is a lovely campground off too the south just before one crosses the old railway bridge into Grand Forks North Dakota.
It's our go to park when we are in the area and called Sherlock Park Campground part of the Red River State Park and recreation area.

Just at the entrance to the park is a block of eating places with outdoor balconies and ground level outdoor patios looking out over the river.

No need to drive, just eat drink and be merry then walk the block to your campground.

We stayed about 7 years ago in the north unit of Roosevelt Park if I remember it was water only but real chap and nice sites. The bison were in rut at the time and all over the place.
