HELP!
We had good Sam come out this morning to take off a bad tire. Got the new tire and the same man came back. He put it on and told us the spring between the tires was bent. We think he did it and he is very angry and said he didn't. We told him we co uldn't drive it like it is and we got here! Any suggestions or thoughts would surely be appreciated! Thanks!

We called Good Sam and they said they couldn't do anything until tire people came out. Manager came out and he was able to bend the brace that holds the spring back into place. He agreed the tire person put the jack in the wrong place and that is what caused the problem. Does anybody see a problem with him bending it back. We hate to be 1200 miles from home and start out with a problem.

I would certainly have a qualified person evaluate it. Any time metal is bent it weakens it. And each time it is bent afterward it weakens it more. May or may not be a problem in your case. But not sure any of us could tell looking at a picture.

I would certainly be concerned about it. Wish I knew exactly what was bent and how badly.

Hi
Please post a picture.
If the bracket that is bent is at the end of one spring like you see in the circles in this picture you should have someone take a very close look at it. This is an area that we have been having problems with.

In the original post Ruth indicated that the bend was between the tires which would suggest the jack was used on the center hanger for the equalizer. this would also suggest he was jacking up the entire weight of the trailer on that side at the equalizer.
I would guess the hanger for the equalizer was bent or some component of the equalizer itself, springs don't bend normally, they break so it is unlikely a spring. This should be checked by someone qualified to assess the integrity of those components.
Pictures would have made it easier to identify the area, but we are not experts and the OP should seek expert advise to ally their concerns. JMHO

It is possible that the spring pack slipped out of the retainer strap, I have seen that before, in that case, it would be no big deal, but without a qualified suspension person seeing it, I don't know. It is unlikely that a spring strap was bent, because the responder put it back. I don't think it was bent and bent back.
Please try and get a good picture of the area it was bent, or dislodged. Too bad that happened to you.
Good luck on it.

Hi
Yes a picture would answerer all questions.
I have formal training in these types of suspensions and years of experience.
As for bending the center spring hanger the way it is built it is near impossible to bend it by jacking the trailer at the center spring hanger. I have been jacking my trailer at the location for 4 years.
The one thing you don’t want to do is jack the trailer at the center spring hanger when the trailer isn’t on the TV fifth wheel. Doing it while the trailer is unhooked from the TV lifts the entire side of the trailer including the front leg on that side and this severely loads the leg on the opposite side with a side load.
