Calif. 395 from Tehachapi to Susanville

I have posted before that hopefully in 3 weeks we will be heading to Oregon. First stop is Bakersfield to visit family and then the plan is to back track to Tehachapi and catch 395 north. We planned on staying the 1st night in Lone Pine at Boulder Creek and then after that who knows. Curious if any one has favorite campgrounds or places to eat along the way. Once we hit Susanville I was going to head for Lake Shasta and north to Oregon.
If I get near Reno during Hot August Nights will finding a campground be tough?

Thanks
Ray

Ray,
We've stayed at Boulder Creek CG and it is a nice park. We normally stop in Bishop. We have stayed at two of the parks there. The one south of town is Brown's Town and is a nice enough park. They have elec. and water but no sewer. They do have a dump station. The other park we stay at is on the north side of town. It is called Highlands RV Park. Kinda spendy at about $40 per night. Just on up the street is the Piaute Indian Casino which has a vacant field next to it which you can boondock there. There may be a small charge for it. I think it is about $5.

Next ON we make is around Reno. We either stay with some friends that live in Gardnerville. In southern part of Carson City there is a nice park called Silver City. It is right on Hwy 395 but road noise is not a problem. Also have stayed on northern side of Reno at a place called Shamrock RV Park.

If you want to stay in Susanville there is a nice park on south side of town called Mountain View. After you cross the mountain on Hwy 89 there is a park called Hat Creek. It is a nice but rustic park. It is very scenic there. And Hwy 89 all the way to Shasta is especially beautiful. I think you'll really enjoy that route.

Have a great trip.
Dennis and Mary Kay

On Edit: Ray I forgot to mention that the later part of August and all of September Reno is booked solid! It is amazing how busy that area gets that time of year.

We have friends that pullthat direction each year to summer in Carson City. If you arrive during HAN you will not find a ting available in Reno. You might try making res. in CC area, fallon outside of reno. Have fun. Also 395 from Reno thru susanvill is a breeze. As you come out of Susanville you turn right onto 44 to Burney, then at a "T" in the road at Old Station area a right onto 44 to Mt.Shasta. From Susanville to MS is 5hrs towing.Dance Country RV in McCloud or Lake Siskiyou in Mt.Shasta are great parks. Safe Travels Teresa

We've stayed a couple of times at Silver City RV Resort on US 395 about 1 mile south of Carson City, just south of Reno. We had the very first Spring National Rally at that park. Their address may be Minden, NV but it's closer to Carson City.

If you are on I-5 and are going near Eugene, OR, Armitage County RV Park is $25 a night with full hook up and the nearest RV is a good distance away. From there we went to Florence, the Dunes, and sight-seeing along the coast. Nice area.
