I won't lock my compartment doors, cheeper just to replace the items they take then having to replace the door. Besides I just might lose weight I don't need.

Sailer,
I put a small decorative furniture hasp with latch on the laundry chute. Works to keep them from coming up through the basement. But then again like others have said if they are determined they could still get in.

Barring the laundry hatch also prevents you from getting in when you lock yourself out or the front door lock fails.Put the best lock you can buy on the hatch and it will still take about 30 seconds to tear the door off with a screw driver or a small breaker bar.

This last October while in Gulf Shores my wife somehow jammed the lock to the door on our TT. There was another door which was kind of a cargo hatch on the rear and I had to crawl across a bed, but at least it let me get in. I called the people who made the lock assembly on my cell and they told me how to take it apart although the tumblers were frozen up. I then had to go to an RV dealer and get a new lock. Thankfully, I didn't have to hire a locksmith or anyone else. I now keep a spare lock assembly in the fiver in case such a thing happens again. I really wish someone would come up with a better door lock that would fit in the present cut-out in our doors.
