Towing length and hitch for 5er

Can anyone tell me what the maximum legal road length is for towing combinations??
I am wondering if I would be overlength if I tried to pull my boat behind our camper when we go places with enough water to fish/play. If any of you have suggestions about what type/brand of reciever hitch works well for this type of application, please chime in!! Thanks!

You'll find most on this site are not too receptive to towing behind your Monty. Each state has its own regulations ... try this site for starters http://www.recvehicle.com/laws.html. I've owned 2 different Montana's and have towed jetski's behind both with no worries. I copied the hitch design from a competitors' installed factory hitch and fabbed my own using 3" steel tube. There is a warranty issue involving the frame that you'll have to resolve in your own mind. Although I've towed jetski's for years, I'd personally stay away from a full sized boat ... too much weight ... too much length when you consider the total length of say a 18' boat on a trailer.

Bryan,
As was already mentioned, there is a frame warranty issue when installing a receiver hitch on the back of your Montana. Just something that is your call, but the ramifications could far outway the benefit of the boat. Also many states out here on the west coast do not allow double trailer towing by non-commerical drivers. The only place I have seen folks pulling rv's and another trailer behind it is in the midwest.

Bryan-
Max length in Texas on tandem trailers is 65' and you will be well over this with a boat behind. I have seen many trailers setup as you are describing and if checked I would think that they would be over the max. length.

Otherwise, as the others have stated..... the warranty issue on the frame by installing a receiver hitch.

Thanks for the input, I was hoping to avoid the need to take 2 vehicles cross country. I guess the extra fuel would be a small price to pay when compared to warranty issues and any damage or extra stress on the frame. The DW has an Envoy that is equipped with a receiver already, just need to buy the ball and hitch insert.
