Hot Water Heater Shut-Off?

While I've never paid attention.. my B-I-L was staying in the RV during a visit. While home, we usually leave the RV plugged in to 120v. So, we discovered the hot water heater was keeping the water hot. Never gave it a passing thought in the past. The rocker switch was turned off in the hallway. The rocker on the heater itself was on.

So, how do I disable the electric side of the HWH? Seemed like even with both rockers in the OFF position, the heater was still hot.. It may have been residual.. but...

What's the word? Thanks, Bill

On mine, the rocker switch in the hallway turns on the gas side of the water heater. The outside rocker switch disables the electric operation. I never fool with the outside switch but if I want to disable the electric I kill it at the breaker. My guess is the hotwater you felt was residual as these things hold heat for a long time. On a side note you can use gas and electric at the same time. Some call it turbo heating. Comes in handy when two showers are needed in a short period of time. Jim

If the switch next to it on the control panel is on then you're running your water heater on propane.

We have two switches inside on the control panel. One marked Gas and the other marked Electric.

Thanks, it was probably residual heat. Both inside and outside are in off position.. I thought this was all that was necessary.. I just didn't figure it would hold heat so long. but, I did turn off at the breaker.. now I have to remember that I thought I was going brain dead.. Ugggh

Even when we travel for the entire day the water is still hot when we get there. They really do hold the heat well.

If you don't remember the first shower should jog your memory!
