Slide roof

While washing the roof on the Monty the other day I noticed that on the slide roof portion that there is some sort of "tape" that runs the length of the slide where the rubber roof meets the flange. this tape is about 3" wide and wraps down the side about 1". On all 3 slides the edge is starting to curl. I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of tape this is and if anyone has had to replace it. I am guessing that from years of the slides going out and in that the wiper seals are starting to peel the tape back.

Without seeing the tape it sounds like Eternabond Tape. First I would try to re-apply the curling edge to the slide by applying pressure . If this does not work you may try to trim the curling edge back to good tape. If you need to re-tape any area HERE is a link to where you can purchase at a pretty fair price. When applying you need to put pressure to get good adhesion to the surface of the slide. I have found that a wallpaper seam roller does a great job which is what I did on my last SOB 5er's sky lights with great success. Hope this helps, Tim

It could be eternabond tape but I don't think that it is. It's a very thin tape with a "feel" like duct tape. I also tried to reapply. No sticky stuff left on the curling edges.

I'm wondering if it isn't "awning repair tape", that perhaps, a previous owner put on all the slide tops to stop, or prevent, a leak at that seam.

I believe in 2005 Montana built the slides with tape covering the transition of the rubber roof to the exterior wall. At least my 2005 2955RL had the same thing. And as you suspected, years of opening/closing the slide caused the edge of the tape to curl. In my case, most of the tape was pushed up against the exterior wall. I removed the tape and replaced it with Eternabond. Problem solved. Be sure to clean the surface and use a roller to seal the Eternabond to the roof.

Rob Walters, I have owned the trailer since new, no repairs made good guess though.

Carl n Susan it is a 2005 built 10/2004. So you had the same problem and used Eternabond for the repair, and had no problem with the additional thickness?

Now for question #2. I'm going to ask even though I think I know the answer. Can you stand on the slide roof?, would make the repair a whole easier if you could.

I have stood on mine multiple times for various reasons without problem.

Mine was built in Nov 2004 as I recall. The additional thickness of the Eternabond was negligible and caused no problems.

I stand on my slide roofs frequently. Legend has it that at one Fall Rally, a high level executive form Montana who weighed north of 250 lbs. jumped down onto the slide out roof to demonstrate its strength. But I found it easier for me to stand on a step ladder when applying the Eternabond tape to the slide roof.

I've owned a 2000 ... 2005 ... and 2011 Montana ... all have had what I term eternabond tape on the EDPM to frame transition as it also covers the screw heads ... that's the way they came from the factory. 1/8" of an inch difference in thickness from stock to what tape you buy at an RV dealer won't matter as there is over an inch clearance between the slide roof and cutout in the side of your fiver when the slide is retracted. Run your finger under the seal and you'll see what I'm speaking of. Yes, I also stand on the slide roof for cleaning and inspection.
