Brake controller

During our last outing we had a lot of trouble getting the truck and trailer to work as one. Numerous adjustment to the brake controller only made it worse. OK, so I got out the directions and that did not help either! Our controller is a 2 year old Tekonsha, I would not suspect a brake controller to fail within that time frame. Dealer is inspecting 5er brakes to make sure problem is not on that end. Should I keep fooling with this brake control or swap for another unit? I've heard about the Prodigy, anyone use it? As always your thoughts are welcome.

My advice is similar to the others'. I bought a different controller every year and didn't find one I really liked until the Prodigy came out. Bought one when they first came out, still using it, will continue to do so. Check out the boost feature on the Prodigy.

When you adjust your current controller you might try to adjust so the trailer brakes come on just before the truck brakes. If you hear the kingpin sliding forward in the hitch when you apply brakes then either the trailer brakes are not applying first or they are set not as strong as the truck brakes. Either way, an adjustment is in order. At least that's one of the things I check for.

With my older controllers it seemed I had to adjust it one way when first starting out for the day and then adjust it again as the brakes warmed up. On a long day's trip I might have to adjust again as they would get too strong. I readjusted the Prodigy several months ago just to see if it needed adjusting and haven't touched it since other than a couple of weeks ago I decided to back off the strength just a bit to alleviate some brake squalling the Montana was having.

I have both I like the Prodigy and I love the Jordan. It is available directly from the manufacturer or from other websites. I installed onr for a friend on a Dodge with the moveable pedals and it was simple. Granted it does take a little longer but not all that much.
