Generator help!

We are pulling a 36 ft Montana RK and are considering a single 3000EU unit or 2 EU2000 units with a parallel kit. Your advice would be great!

As I have posted before, I like the 2 EU2000's w/ parallel kit. I can use 1 or both if needed, they are stored out of the way in the front compartment and they are easy to lift.

I have the 2 EU2000 units with the parallel kit also. I like the ability to use just one. And as posted above, the weight is easily managable.

I was going to build the parallel kit and had all the parts. When it was all done and said, I bought the kit from CW.

We have one EU2000 and find it most manageable. On those occasions when it is very hot (95 °F and above) we use our Fantastic Fans and one portable Fantastic fan. Has worked for us for 4 years. We never find ourselves in need of a second generator just to run the AC.

KSB, I too am planning on buying the two 2000s and parallel kit. Reason: You get more total power. use one or both, both together are lighter than the 3000. Weight is always an issue. Only about $300 more this way. At 47 lbs each compared to the 134 for the 3000, they are more easily maneuverable. But, you know what they say about opinions......lol

Guess it depends on how much you want to run,We understand the Eu 2000 will not support the A/C The two 2000's in parallel offer a diversity of uses but it is a fairly expensive setup. The Kipor3000/3500 is heavy @132Lbs but will run everything and is a lot less expensive than the two 2000 Honda's or even 1 3000 Honda..The Kipor is just a quiet as the Honda and just a reliable.Would suggest you do some research on both units and purchase
what will suit your needs best.

ksb,
I have an EU3000 and it handles everything just fine. We have just the single air conditioner on our 36' Mountaineer, so the 3000 is more than adequate in most situations. The 3000 is heavy and a bit much for one person to handle, plus its size requires that I carry it in the back of the truck. This is OK as I have a cover to protect it from the weather, but I'm beginning to think that 2 2000s would have been a better choice. They seem to provide more flexibility and a definite size and weight advantage. I wish I had looked at this forum before I bought mine.

Ok, posting my vote on richfaa's side. Kipor was the best value for me as its capacity manages my single A/C unit for boondocking trips. Created a custom pigtail to connect the 30amp 120vac directly to the 50amp Monty cable. Ran it for 1 week on just 2 tanks of fuel. It has electric start...don't think those EU2000's do... Downside it won't fit in front storage so, I keep it on a metal pan, blocked off wheels, just inside door during travel. Ahh, yes it is too much for one person to be lugging around.

I use a Honda EM3000ic Cycloconverter.
Only weighs in a 68 lbs dry, and will run one A/C, puts out 21.7 Amps
Don't use it very often, but is nice to have one.

ksb, I was probably the first to use the Kipor 3500T and have been very satisfied with the unit. I have help lifting the unit into the truck but I leave it there. I did a lot of research on the Kipor before I purchased it. I'm here to tell you if you can't lift it in or out or get help getting it in and out of the truck, go with the lighter models no matter what they cost. I'll stick with my Kipor, I'm not going to spend more money when my unit will do what I need it to do. Just my 2 cents!

I have the Yamaha EF2400iS. Like all the others, it has plusses and minuses. It will run my A/C, but no other big appliances at the same time. It does not have electric start, but it starts easily on the first or second pull. It is very quiet and weighs 64 lbs. I have mine on a slide-out tray in the port side compartment. You can get one for about $1,100. Works well for me.

Humm...Noneck..Like the pan Idea. We took the wheels off so it will fit uner our Fold-A-Cover and keep it in the back of the truck to the right of the tailgate/ Normally run it from there..Either back the truck up toward the rear of the 3400 or we have enough 30amp cable to run it back while still hooked up. I suppose if we were somewhere for awhile we would take it off the truck Helen and I can manage it on and off with little problem . (She is a very strong lady. It weighs 132 lbs.. I can lift it but it is square and bulky thus hard to manage alone.

Bob, do you have a 15K A/C and the Apollo 1/2 time oven? I am surprised that the Yamaha EF2400is runs your A/C if it is the 15K. I am thinking about getting the same genny, but want it to at least run the Apollo microwave part of it. Running the 15K A/C would be iceing on the cake.

Has any one purchased a generator as an option from Keystone when they purchased their unit? Interested in how you think they compare to units you mention. Thanks.

Yes Ken, I do have the 15,000 BTU A/C and the Apollo 1/2-time oven. The 2400 will run both, but not at the same time. The biggest drawer of power seems to be the electric fireplace, but it will run also. When you run any of these big appliances you need to be sure your water heater is on gas rather than electric.
