Which Hitch Will Fit?
My new truck will be a 2007 Chevy Silverado "Classic" DRW, D/A, CC. Rickfox suggested I ask those with similar trucks which hitch fits the 3400...apparently there is a height problem with some hitches. The truck is being built this week, delivered next week.
As most know, Chevy does not offer 1 tons with SBs, so I don't need a slider. Also, we are going to start without any type of air hitch/pin.
All suggestions welcome.

Was just a wondering, why you don't want to start with a air hitch?

What exactly is the height problem with the 3400? Since we have one on order this caught my attention. Is the pin height different than on our 2003 3295RK?

I don't know what the problem is...here's the quote:
"Cat320, hitches also come in several heights, in addition to having a height adjustment. I would check with someone who has your TV and confirm the hitch you purchase can be adjusted vertically to ensure the Monty will ride level. I have heard from a number in our group that they had difficulties adjusting things to get the front on the Monty down to level. I have not heard from anyone that they had difficulty getting the Monty front up to level."

Thanks. Our current one rides level. The Reese hitch has tow more holes so I can drop it up to 2 1/4 inches, approximately. Or one more hole to raise it half that much. The pinbox could be dropped if more height is needed but I'd bet it rides a bit higher than the one we have so I'd have to drop the hitch. One more thing to check out before towing. Thanks.

Good Evening,
Essentially all of the 34' and longer 2006 models were installed with the "shortened" pin box, and this pin box was mounted at its "highest" position in the frame wings (the frame manufacturer's terminology - the bracket that hold the pin box to the frame). At about that time they also changed the tire size (went to Mission ST tires), and also (I believe, made some small frame changes). These resulted in some changes to the trailer height at the axles vs. the height at the king pin.
With my 3400 built as above, I was unable to raise the pin box, or lower my hitch (16K Draw-Tite) since it was already in its lowest hole mounting. The result was that my 3400 rode about 1.5" high in the front.
I went around and around with Montana about the situation and they made numerous suggestions, but it finally came down to me having to deal with it myself. Their position was that from time to time changes were implemented in the trailer design that when combined resulted in unintended consequences. And they would be making more - such as the Mor-Ryde suspension.
I'm just suggesting that one measure first, buy second. For example, the Reese 15K hitch can be purchased with an adjustment range of 13.5 - 17.5". The 16K adjustment range is 14.5 - 18.5".

One thing I noticed with this hitch verses the superglide (automatic sliding hitch) is you don't have to modify the pin box. I just wonder how difficult it would be trying to hitch up and not being completely level or trying to hitch at an angle other than perpendicular to the hitch.

Thanks for the information, rickfox. I probably wouldn't consider an inch and a half a big deal and would not worry about it. I'd adjust it out if the adjustment room is there. Otherwise I'd just live with it. Just my opinion, not a guideline for anyone else.

Steve,
In a discussion with a trailer design guy, he stated that the pin high or low a small amount would change the pin weight very litte - so no problem. He did state that the greater problem would be that more weight would be placed upon the rear axle of a tandem axle trailer if the pin were high - on the front axle if the pin were low. He mentioned that "it depended a lot upon the trailer design" but that the difference could be 100's of pounds.
Maybe some day I will weight both axles and see what I find.

I'm sure it could but it seems what shifts to the axle would have to equal what comes off the pin since there are no other load points and the trailer weight overall doesn't change. That's one method I've used in the past to change pinweight a little. Back in my triple days I set it a little nose low to compensate for the additional weight on the hitch behind the FW. That was not on a Montana, however. Level is best, of course, but not always exactly attainable. At least not for me.

Cat320,
Be sure to look at the Pullrite Super 5th. Has the same great features as my Superglide.

Thanks for all the suggestions...as usual, I've researched the devil out of these things and have about decided to go with Hidden (which is the same as Reese and Drawtite)...it's $200 less than Super 5th, Hijacker, and even Reese, which, as stated, is the same hitch. The only one close in price is the Valley...which makes Husky...the Husky is even less, but I did not get a good feeling when I visited their shop. Go figure.
