When I bought my first diesel truck in 97, diesel was cheaper than gas. I bought it for that reason and because it got better fuel mileage.

You gotta wonder where all that money goes in California.....Didn’t look like it was spent on roads for sure!

Got my truck in 2006. Diesel was cheaper than gas - I think $1.40 but memory may not be accurate. But I know it was cheaper. Did a short 2000 mi trip that year. I think the next year we went to Chicago and paid $4.85. Price gradually went down and by the next year was back under $2.

Here in Omaha, NE, gas is down to about $2.49 per gallon for regular 10% ethanol and I just filled up with diesel for $2.98 a gallon. It's been on a downward trend for the past couple weeks. I find that diesel does not fluctuate nearly as often or as much as gasoline.

The gas station near my house has Reg @ $2.29 and Diesel @ $3.22
This is in N.E. Ohio
Oh for the days when diesel was considered a "dirty" fuel and was waaaaaaaay cheaper than gasoline.
I remember buying regular leaded gas at 25 cents a gallon and diesel was less than that. (way back in the day)

A big chunk of it is going to pay for Jerry Brown's high-speed rail boondoggle. Sure isn't fixing the roads. I-5 North of Bakersfield is responsible for knocking my HC's axles out of alignment. I should send a bill to CalDOT.

Here in Southern Oregon, Reg, is about 3 bucks, Diesel about 25 cents more, except at Shell stations which sell B20 for just under $3.00. B20 in Oregon is exempt from state excise tax.

Correct me if I am wrong but If I recall Oregon has a law that says you cannot pump your own fuel and they actually have employees out there pumping thus driving up the price of fuel but helping out the unemployed. No one likes high fuel prices but I like that it helps putting people to work. BTW, we love Oregon.

I know for a fact that you can not pump your own gas in NJ. Its been that way forever. And I do not think they pay any more than those who pump it themselves. My sister, who lived in NJ for many years still (to this day) does not pump her own gas.

Oregon does have a law that does not allow you to pump your own gasoline. It does however, allow you to pump your own diesel (up to the discretion of the station). It is based on an old mindset about the volatility of gasoline. But thanks to a new law that went into effect on January 1, customers can now pump their own gas in Oregon, though only at stand-alone gas stations in counties with fewer than 40,000 residents. Elsewhere, the ban still holds.

We travel allot in Indiana , Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio I use Gas Buddy exclusively, but similar pricing 50-70 c / gal over reg gas But there are places where the spread is less, so when I can I shop around
My personal view : diesel is cheaper to produce , but because most is by far consumed by commercial freight companies WHO PASS ON FUEL ADJUSTMENT costs , they don't care Nobody lobbying for cheaper diesel because they pass on the costs
There was a time when diesel was cheaper than gasoline, but those seats are gone

The problem with Calif. is that they spend the road tax on everything but the roads.. High speed rail, bike paths, mass transit, I don't have problems with any of these except when they use the gas tax which is a user fee and should go to what it is collected for. If they want these other things they need to go to the general fund and figure out how to pay for them.

We use Gas Buddy but for some reason here in NJ there is also a $.60-$.70 cent difference and it is frustrating as we pay $3.15-$3.35 per gallon depending on where you are in NJ

Right but I live in NJ and I can pump my own Diesel only, not gas which seems odd but I am happy by I had one kid almost put gas in my truck so I never let anyone pump for me anymore ever.

Diesel prices are usually higher than gasoline due to the extra road taxes meant for the trucking industry.

Near your location Dave and see about the same. Wondering why since crude has dropped what, $20 a barrel in last two weeks but haven't seen a flinch at the pump.
