fuse for the range hood light and fan

We seem to always have a blown fuse that controls the range hood fan and light. We seem to only have this happen when first setting up. I don't know what else is on that circuit but replacing the fuse is all we have to do but what is causing it to blow? Any ideas?

Replace the fuse with a comparable small in line circuit breaker

Dave, can you maybe turn on everything and pull that fuse to see what goes off? It sounds like something is maybe reacting to a surge when you plug in the rig. Still, I wouldn't think it would be enough to pop the fuse every time.

If yours is like ours, that range hood fan is probably on the same gfci circuit as the fridge, the living room tv, all the kitchen outlets, the bathroom vanity outlet. Different models may differ, though.

Thanks for the suggestions. Scott, I agree that those things are on the same circuit but those things are turned off (except for Fridg). Maybe that's enough of a surge to blow it.

Wow am I getting careless...I'm usually more careful with people's names. Steve Reigle...I'm sorry about messing up your name. Maybe that's why I only have a dozen posts.

Not a problem, Dave. It's not an easy spelling and is pronounced differently than spelled (no, it's not pronounced 'Smith').

You mentioned it happens only when first setting up. Is the fuse already blown before you turn on the light/fan? There must be something different about when first setting up. The only thing I can think of is the slides moving. Is your fan/light in the slide? If so, maybe there's some bare wire under the slide that's shorting to metal when the slide is moved. Just a thought. I know there's wiring under the slide in ours and the wires for the fan/light go there. Ours was once inoperable after moving the slides. The dealer found the problem was in the junction box under the slide. The wires had become disconnected. There could be a bare wire going into the junction box or elsewhere under the slide. Might be worth crawling under to check it out.

Thanks again Steve. The kitchen is not in the slide and it just doesn't work when first setting up. Finally getting used to replacing the fuse right away and it doesn't give us any problems. I'll probably try to remember to just take that fuse out when we put the unit away and then replace it after setting up.

One of the first things I did after getting our 5er was to take all the panels I could find like fridg., water pump area, and electrical boxes I could find. Found ground wires in most loose or not connected.

First few times we set up our 5er we popped the 30amp breaker each time we pluged into park power since fixing the bad connections have'nt had the problem.

Suggest you look at the fuse panel and make sure all the wires are tightly secured by the connection hold down screws. I encountered several loose wires in my previous 5th wheel.

Thanks for the ideas about loose ground wires etc. Will check those things out next weekend when we go out. I have checked out the connections in the fuse panel and the inverter has been replaced in the past.
