Which roadside assistance?

AAA RV PLUS or Good Sam Roadside Assistance? Any recommendations?

IMHO, it's a tossup. We've had GS and Coachnet over the last 10 yrs. We have GS at the moment. We've had problems with both and good experiences with both.

I also frequent the rv.net forum site. Both Good Sam and Coachnet generally get good comments. But seems Good Sam tends to have more negative comments, not a lot but more. For that reason I went with Coachnet. But have not had to use them yet so can't comment on their performance.
AAA is not mentioned very often there good or bad.

We use Coachnet and have had great service when we needed it, used their repair technician service for advice on what was wrong and used their referral service when we needed a mobile RV repair person. We had AAA RVPlus and the sales person told us the size of our rig was no problem. Just to make sure I called the emergency number and told them what we had, how long it was and asked if the truck broke down would they tow both the truck and the Monty. They said no we were too long. They would leave the rig on the side of the interstate, so we changed. Now that is Kansas AAA folks in other states have had different experiences and California appears to be great but if I was traveling I would be concerned about breaking down in a state that wasn't so great.

I have had both, AAA and GS. I had one claim with AAA and not problems handling it. GS seems to be better all around and I have had it for the last 7 years. Some minor claims with no problems.

To utilize AAA for an RV you need to purchase their premier service, which approaches $200/year for a married couple.

When I found out that Good Sam was about half of that, I switched.

It turns out both of these companies frequently use the same tow companies to handle their calls. This cinched it for me.

Sure AAA offers a plethora of additional services, but Good Sam is also going that direction. And if you don't use those additional services....

Rainer is correct. Most roadside services contract with local companies for service. Having been a Tow Co. owner, I'm familiar. AAA contracts with the lowest bidder , therefore usually having the lowest quality Ser. Most others check on the quality of Ser. rendered frequently and keep only the ones doing a good job.

We've had GS and Coachnet. I prefer Coachnet. I believe they contract with a better class of companies doing roadside service.

We cancelled AAA several years ago because of cost, and went with Good Sam. Have not had to use it to date.

I had to use GS shortly after I became a member. I called into their center and gave my location, gave account number and that was it. Help came within an hour, fixed the problem, signed a few papers and I was back on my way. GS called later to ask if help came in a timely manner, which I thought was good follow up.

I have Progressive Insurance with the Full Timers package. The roadside assistance is included for electrical, mechanical, and other types of "emergencies". My Ford TV is new enough it is covered anyway up until 60,000 I believe for the roadside assistance. Am I missing something here or do other insurance policies not offer the roadside assistance with their RV policies? Should I be getting another package from GS or somewhere else?

AAA, GS, Coach Net...it's like Chevy, Dodge, Ford...take your pick. We have GS.

Thank you all for the feedback. We have never heard of coachnet, so will check it out, too. Guess we have to make a decision.

You can check it out here - http://coach-net.com One other thing they do that is important to us is that they have an app for our phone that will let us call for help instead of an actual phone call. Sometimes, out in the boonies where we spend a lot of time, data will go thru when voice won't.

I've had all three. Started with AAA but switched to GS when they started to nickel and dime us to death. Their rates got ridiculous. Had GS for half of what AAA charged. But then once I got my MH stuck in a Campground, got off the pad and it was all mud. Called GS and was told they would not pull me out since I was off the hard road????????? Talked to 2 people who refused to send a tow truck out, I mean a camper in a campground covered by a camping orginization???????...Was calling back to raise holy double hockey sticks but the owner showed up with a back hoe. So when I got the Montana I got 5 years "free" Coach Net, yeah yeah I know, ain't nothing free but hey figured we would try it. Have used it twice and no problems no hassles and fast courteous service... It covers anybody living in my house and all my vehicles including the bike.....

Have only had Coach-Net for 6 months, but have had to use them 3 times. Service has been great each time.
