Cheaper Ipad

If you're in the market for an Ipad, but are put off by the price here's something that might work for you. Go to the Apple store site. Scroll all the way down the left hand side till you get to refurbished Ipads. If you don't care about a better camera or being able to hook the Ipad to your big screen TV look at the Ipad 1's that are 3g with AT&T. A 32g is $399 and a 64g is $499. In our case we were just looking for one to surf the net and do email so we won't miss the stuff on the Ipad2 and we will use our in house wifi set up (usb on Verizon network with Millenicom) so we won't have to use the AT&T end of it unless we decide we want to for some reason (the AT&T service is by the month if you use it). Same warranty as new and can get the extended warranty if you want it.

Good tip! I bought my iPad2-64 new and forked over the big $$$. Still, I'm happy with it.

I am debating between an Ipad2 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab at present. The Samsung supports Flashplayer whereas the Ipad does not. Galaxy comes preloaded with an Office suite and Adobe as well. Any experience or thoughts out there on the differences between the two?? Ironically there are also re-furbished Galaxy's out there as well for the same price. Hope for the sake of both of them that it is not indicative of the failure rate??

You're right... the Apple browser Safari does not play flash items. There is, however an app for that. It's called Swifter and it does play flash on the iPad2.
If you use Excite, the email part doesn't work on an iPad2. That is Excite's limitation, not the iPad.

Bingo,

Check Kim Komando's web site for some info on the iPad2.

Many folks think Adobe Flash will go the way of the dinosaur as more developers get "smart" with HTML5, the newest HTML version. Flash is a proprietary system which was never developed for a touch-screen unit, and HTML5 video doesn't require a separate player, like Flash (bye bye, Flash!). Pretty sure Apple offers an Office-like app somewhere, but I've not checked.

I'd lean toward the iPad2 for no other reason (right now) than it's the "big dog" for the time being. Apple's built a sturdy network of app developers, and they are very aggressively trying to keep the iPad at the top of the heap. I have one on my Christmas list.

The makers of flash recently announced they aren't going any further with developing the mobile version so my guess would be it's toast in the long run.

I went with the ASUS EeePad Transformer. Flash, Adobe, Android, etc. I purchased the keyboard to go with it. Double the battery life and memory. There are two new ones on the market...ASUS EeePad Slider (keyboard built in) and the ASUS Prime (Quad Core). Coming next Spring is the ASUS Padfone (smart phone embeds into the tablet). Google them. Great tablets for a reasonable price.

I have both a G Tab and the Ip2, they are both vreat toys... I would co.sider getting the new Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus... You can get it with the built in phone...
I find the size 7" to be more manageable and easier to carry... if you get fhe phone you can get unlimited service from Tmob...
Bottom line, I am happy with.both... Good luck
Oh I forgot you can Skype with the Ip2 on 3g as well as wi-fi... Make sure you download the blue logo and.not the white for the Gtab... if you look carefully in Market there are 2 versio.s of Skype...
Again wish you the best... Hope this helps...

I opted to wait for the ASUS Prime. It has a bigger processor, which means faster, comes with 32mb memory (I added a 32mb sim card) and does everything the Ipad can do for less money. I plan to get the keyboard too for the same reasons you did. I love my Prime. It is so handy and has a ton of apps that are very helpful. Anyone wanting something as good if not better than the Ipad should look at the Prime.

I went with the Toshiba Thrive 32 Gig tablet. Android based operating system and has full size SD card, USB and HDMI slots as well as a mini USB plug in and GPS chip. Decent front and rear camera/video systems also. Synchs with my Adroid based phone.

That's why I opted for the Ipad. Since our big computer is a Mac and our phones are Iphones they can all use the same apps and work together when needed. Supposedly the wireless keyboard for the Mac will work with the Ipad, but I haven't had any reason to want to do that.

Ended up getting DW a Motorola Xoom 10.1 tablet for Christmas. So far, we (I mean she, can't get it away from her) are impressed with it. It is Android, came with an Office Suite and there seems to be ample apps for it as well. Looked hard at an Ipad but couldn't convince myself to spend the additional $150 for it over the Xoom price.
