Body damage and where to repair??

We had some damage on the rear cap and left quarter panel of our Montana 3721RL last month. Now that we are in the Houston area for about a month, we are exploring the challenges with getting it fixed, and oh yes, we are full timers too. It will be an insurance claim through National General, who referred us to Camping world in Katy (big facility) We went there yesterday and we could see that there were a lot of rigs in the process of getting fixed, etc. We were informed that we would need to leave the rig there to have the back inspected and pulled off, approvals, etc. We had some concerns about their attention to "getting things done" in a semi-timely fashion. We also took the rig to another smaller operation north of Houston who just took pictures and will get approvals, order parts etc. and only had 3 rigs in process (but was highly rated on Google).

We are in a quandry about using the recommended, potentially longer CW vs an independent guy

Last note, we do have full time insurance coverage for housing too.

Any thoughts/comments appreciated...

I would hesitate to take it to Camping World. Their reputation, nationwide, for getting work done in a timely manner is poor to say the least. We also full time and have full timers insurance, but the policy wouldn't pay for housing for the time period some folks on here have had theirs in a Camping World. If it seemed that was the only option I'd be asking fellow campers and at the offices of local RV parks to see what they say.

check on your 'housing' coverage, ours was only $100 a day for up to 6 days.

just get the best you can. or drive somewhere else if you are full timers. find a place where you can live in your trailer while they repair it.

Ask good questions of the two shops and then make a decision.

All CW are not the same - I have had good timely service at our CW in Tucson. Sounds like the one in Katy is not set up to cater to full timers.

With the small facility that is willing to work parts before you leave it that seems a good choice as long as your insurance company does not have an issue.

If you can live with it until spring, D and T RV Repair in Goshen Indiana. We had ours there to repair hail damage and it came back looking like new. I realize that would be quite a drive from Texas but we left ours after the national rally and traveled back from Pennsylvania to get it.

A little farther north, but I can definitely recommend http://www.coachspecialists.com/. Their main facility is in Mansfield, just south of the DFW area. And a satellite facility in Plano, north of Dallas. I caught my rear cap on a steel column leaving storage facility and did major damage. Googled rv repair and found them with good reviews. I called and they said I could drop the trailer off at Plano and they would take it to Mansfield. I dropped it off at Plano. They took it to Mansfield the same day. They worked up the estimate, submitted it to my insurance, got approval to start work from insurance, found a couple more items as they got into it, got approval from insurance for that, and the entire process took only 3 weeks. And that included July 4th holidays in the middle. And they did great work. Total cost for repair was about $14,000. Cost me $500 deductible.

Before and after pictures.

I don't know about all camping worlds but the one in Grain Valley Missouri subs all their body work out. They gave our neighbor the name of who they sub it to and told him to deal directly with that individual. Might ask if the one in Katy does the same. According to the guy they referred the neighbor to all the RV dealers in the area mark his charge up 100%. I even had the guy do a little body work for me. Work was excellent, price was cheap.

thanks all for your comments and yes, I mean no, we didn't take it to Camping World. Instead, we took it for another estimate at Ron Hoover RV in Katy TX (next door to CW)....Estimate done in 2 hours, very professional. Turned out they have some of the parts; estimate seemed in line; appointment made for 2 weeks from now so they can have it while we out of the country for a week. Fingers crossed.

Just a follow up to our repair process. We left the rig with Ron Hoover RV and Boat in Katy TX on Monday, November 12th and we got it back yesterday, the 20th as promised. Don Parsons in their service department kept us apprised of their progress, and sure enough the rig was waiting outside in their temporary camping area when we flew back in yesterday. All was good with the repair and no unexpected surprises. We even had the rig washed ($125). Definitely someplace to keep in mind for work and professionalism.

Do NOT use CW in Katy. We purchased our 5'er from them and will NEVER go back there. Also, we have had similar damage (see our pictures posted) and it took 6 months to have it repaired (its a long story - lost paperwork and many other issue) but the insurance company (Progressive) came out right away, cleared us for housing, then we took it to the repair facility (we were in Charleston SC) they did what they needed to do to order the parts, closed it back up and we stayed in it waiting for the parts to come in. Once all the parts were in it only took 2 weeks - now we are good as new.

I know of 2 that had work done at CW in Myrtle Beach. One just a small panel and an other ~~ kinda big on the passenger side. Both extremely happy. Both had estimate done and brought back after parts arrived and shop time was available which was quick. A 3rd had even better luck there... but too far from TX.

When we needed some body work, a boat owner suggested a shop that works mostly on fiberglass boats. Took it there, he did a great and timely job.
