Plumbing issue

Help!! Our black tank power washer creates a leak in a hot water line and a cold water line but will not pressure wash the black water tank. Our rig is a 2007 Montana fiver 2955RL. We bought it about 1 1/2 yrs ago and are still learning all the ins and outs. Any one had to deal with this sort of problem?? Any help is much appreciated😊 I guess our problem is that we can’t determine where the leaking water line goes or where it’s from. We tried all faucets within the rig but see no leak. Only when the power sprayer is turned on. Hope that makes more sense😬

Very common problem. If you are lucky, under your bathroom sink a waterline will come up from the basement connect to a black (usually) device and then the line goes back to the basement. That is a vacuum breaker and needs to be replaced. If your not lucky it's in the wall somewhere and there are a number of walls it could be behind. When you find it, either illuminate it altogether and use and exterior one (what we do) or replace it with a good brass one from the hardware store.

We apparently don't have one under our bathroom sink so we'll have to try plan B. However, I'm not sure what you meant by using a exterior one. Also, you said illuminate it, did you mean eliminate it? Your second solution has me confused, which isn't hard to do😏 Thanks for your help my friend.

I was one of the lucky ones. It was under the bathroom sink, Cut the lines and used 2 shark bite 90s to eliminate it,

Yes spell check got me. We use a backflow preventer like restaurants and others have to put on an outside or mop sink faucet available at most hardware stores and I have it attached to the flush inlet in the convenience center. On some older models there was a patch on the wall of a bedroom cabinet next to the bathroom that had the vacuum breaker in there. I saw one older model with the bathroom of the side isle that had the hatch in a closet or pantry, I don't remember which, down stairs on the wall of the bathroom. Several members that had those set ups found that the patch didn't always hit the breaker and had to open the hole further to get to it. Good luck on your search.

If your 2007 is anything like my 2005, and I bet it is, the vacuum breaker is behind the shower. You can access it from the left hand kitchen closet. There should be a removable panel there. If not you will have to make a hole yourself. Be sure to close the sliding door as it will block your view.

The easier way is to remove the back wall of the passthru compartment, find the lines that feed the vacuum breaker, cut each one and connect them together (using a couple of 90 degree Shark Bite connectors). This will eliminate the vacuum breaker, and the leak behind the shower. You do need to put an anti-siphon valve on the convenience center connection to provide the same back flow protection

I have a 2019 373RD and I do have the two white water lines coming up under the bathroom vanity with the black piece which I assume would act the same as a back flow preventer. I have had two occasions where it did leak, both times I believe was because of too high of water pressure when I was rinsing the tank. My questions are, why do the lines go up into the bathroom and then back down to the tank? If I have access to the pipes underneath can I shorten the pipes to connect them down there? If I decide to eliminate the black piece and use a back flow preventer at the water inlet what are the connectors I use to connect the two white lines together? Thanks I look forward to input.

Just use a shark bite coupling for 1/2” Pex

I believe the answer is so that it is higher than the toilet bowl

This is the link to the manufacturer's site that has the product details for the valve: https://jrproducts.net/product/571-vac-chk-a/

So just so I have this right... if I have access to the water lines behind the pass through I can cut and splice (using the shark bites) there as long as I have the back flow preventer at the flush connection. It would help if I could see a picture of the two lines connected together.

Thanks

Sharkbites are excellent items but very expensive. Get you a couple of plastic compression fittings and join them that way. Explain what you are doing to most plumbing sales personnel, yes even Lowes or Home Depot, and they can fix you up for four or five bucks.

I would think if you get behind the basement wall and have someone turn on the backflush for 10 seconds, you could figure out which lines are leaking. As to a picture, in my rigs, it was just two lines about 3 inches apart. They go up to the valve, which is about 3 or 4 inches long, cross over thru the valve and back down.

Ok so I have all the parts I need, I just need to know if I can connect the two lines together in the basement or if I have to keep the lines high up in the bathroom. I am going to use an anti siphon/ back flow preventer at the tank flush inlet.

Hook them together in the basement. No need to keep them high as you are using back flow preventer at the source.

I had two hoses connected with a Siamese connection at the inlet, did not turn off regular water supply hose when turning on black tank flush, water started leaking from shower, turned off regular hose, problem solved

Us too

We bought a used ‘09 Big Sky. The one and only time we tried to use the BW tank cleaner, water shot from behind the shower wall onto the stairs.
