Hi!

We are new to this board and have enjoyed reading all the good information. We do not own an RV at this time, but have been looking at the Montana's for a couple years. We thought we had decided on the 3295RK, as we liked the kitchen layout and counter space and my husband didn't really want to go any bigger. Then we saw the floor plan of the 3400RL. The more we look at the 3400, the better we like the living room in the back and the kitchen still has nice counter space. After my husband saw the specs on the 3400, he is concerned about it being too big to get in some of the camp grounds and state parks. Has anyone had problems with either the 3295RK or the 3400RL in the camp grounds and state parks? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

First, welcome to MOC!

Well, we have the 3295RK, and we have not had too much problem with spots to date. That said, I try to be careful with the campgrounds we visit; if I know the area is tight around the road, such as Vogel SP in Georgia or Devils Fork SP in SC, I have been reluctant to go there. So far, I am yet to find a campground that will not hold our Montana. I would caution that you might take width with the slides extended into consideration as well.

Bottom line, do a little scouting of the campgrounds before you go--if possible; it might save you some grief.

We had exactly the same experience, we were going to buy the 3295 and then saw the 3400. Wordsmith's advice is good. We just check the size of the spot. There are some state and federal parks that are limited to 28' so neither unit will fit. There are enough places out there that we fit into that you won't have any problems.

Welcome, I would not worry about getting into campsites. When you call make sure you let them know the size of your unit and how many slide outs you have. I only had one issue in the last two yrs.

Good luck in your final decision on a Montana model. So far we haven't stayed at many state/federal parks, but a telephone call to the park should get you the answers you need. We rely on the Trailer Life Campground Directory when choosing a place to stay - if we have any questions about the information there, we make a call. Safe travels.

Good luck in making your decision, whatever it is will be the right one for you. I agree will all of the above. A quick call ahead can save a lot of time and heartache. But I don't think you'll have too many problems, unless you really favor the "Woods" enviroment - deep and dark. Then the branches are the issue. again good luck.

welcome! both are nice units, but it depends on what you want. yes the bigger you go the more challenging it can get.

Welcome to the forum. In my opinion, there are so many parks that will take the 3400 that the few who don't aren't worth my time to consider. I don't live in the park, I live in the Monty. So I want what I want and if it doesn't fit the park, the park doesn't suit me. I am not trying to be caustic, but I refuse to let others dictate my life. I am sure you will make the decision that is right for you.

Welcome aboard, Jeff and Carol! FYI, if the 3400RL will not fit, then neither will the 3295RK, in 99% of the cases. The model number is a bit misleading. Our 3295Rk measures 36'4" actual length, stem to stern. The 3400RL will be a couple of feet or so longer yet but it's unlikely you'll find a park that can fit one of those but not the other. At least in our estimation. We've found those where we won't fit also can't handle anything longer than about 30', occasionally 32', often less.

Both are beautiful models. I'm sure you'll love it, whichever you get.
