Red face Would you buy another Montana

New member here, and seriously considering a Montana. We have a small cougar and have used it for the last 3 years, many miles on it and about 3 months at a time. Had a Jayco Eagle back in 2005, nice unit. I talk to many fifth wheel owners and have never heard one complain about their Montana, and many have had several. I know most of the components are the same in all brands and it comes down to luck as to how good is the build. And I am sure we have all heard someone bashing whatever brand they have for something most of us would just fix. We have narrowed are search to a solitude 310GK or a Montana 312RL. So for all the Montana owners, would you buy another Montana?
And thanks for a great forum.http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...lies/thumb.gif

Part of the issue you may have is the dealer. At our dealer, I get okay results if I troubleshoot down ti "this needs to be replaced and I show the tech". If they have to troubleshoot it -- It always works for them. Electric levelers are above their ability.

I say okay results because I always have to either clean up after them or gather the loose screw they leave lying around.

For me, yes we would buy another Montana, but because of problems we had with electric levelers and cable slides, I steer away from MHC.

We love ours! We have had some issues, but they have been resolved, mostly by me. We have looked closely at the GD and its nice, they do seem to have a reputation for good customer service, though it may be that there're not sold through CW. Not impressed with the exterior finish, if you dont get full body paint(10k) it has a texture. If you look behind a cabinet or panel it looks the same, I dont see a 30k difference! I believe they pull from the same labor pool & they are owned by winnebago. Montana sells a lot of fifth wheels so you have more people with complaints, some legit, some owner related.we have met a lot of rv owners that have no clue & blame the manufacturer for the problem. With that said I would buy another Montana in a heart beat if it was what we were looking for. There also seems to be a lot of room for negotiation on Montanas, we got ours for a really good price & a great trade in from CW. Good luck.

We bought ours used in 2013. It's the first time not buying new. We have had very good luck with it. I even had a chance to talk to the previous owner and he claims to not have had any problems with it, either. So, yes, I would buy another Montana. But, as before, we will consider all brands and pick the one we like the best, if and when. Right now no plans to replace this one.

We bought ours new in 2007. And it has been as troublefree as I could have ever hoped for it to be. I know some newer buyers have expressed some dissatisfaction with theirs. But some of the buyers of older models did also. So yes, Montana would be first on our list if we decided to buy another.

We are just beginning our second season with our 2019 Montana and are very pleased with it. Yes, we do have a few issues that need to be addressed at the rally, but we would certainly buy another Montana.

We traded a 2015 GD Solitude for this one, and could not be happier getting rid of the GD. We personally found their CS people to be absolutely awful. We spent quite a bit of money, time and frustration fixing manufacturers defects that they refused to stand behind. Luckily Russ was able to fix everything so that we could trade it with a clear conscience.

Comparing build quality, the Montana shines in comparison.

We had a Jayco fifth wheel for five years and had no complaints. Then we had a Crossroads product for four years. Every time we came back from a trip we had a list of issues. Although the trailer was attractive and had a amazing floor plan, we just got fed up with all the issues.

We traded it in on a Montana two years ago. Our issues with the Montana have been minor. We just got back from a four month camping trip to Florida, with no issues to address.

Yes, we would definitely buy a Montana again.

I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. Well made for the most part. HOWEVER by the time I was finished the Rep would change his phone number and the Dealership would have a Voodoo doll with my face on it. LOL

Already have. Bought new in 2010 and never expected to trade it. Full timed in it for 7 years and then made the mistake of taking it in to replace the black tank valve and saw this one.

We are on our third and would buy another in a hart beat. A few very minor problems nothing I could not fix.

My biggest problem was with service people. Can’t call them service people parts changers.

Its a tough question for us. It depends I suppose is the best answer. We are on our second BUT we were not full time when we bought them. Now that we are, more than likely we will go with a much more expensive custom built New Horizon. Their build quality is far superior and they actually allow the customers to be involved with the building process. BUT that is expensive!

IF we were just looking for another 5th wheel in the same price range then we would go with another Montana PROVIDED the floor plan was what we wanted. We aren't married to the brand by no means but I don't think their build quality is any better or worse than any other brand (short of the customs of course). I will say the folks on this forum are probably the best reason to buy a Montana!!

As for buying from Camping World, I would do it again in a heartbeat. STRICTLY because you can't beat their price (trust me I tried). Then I would take it to a REPAIR ONLY business to do all my work or better yet do it yourself. Their isn't a SALES dealer in the country that really cares about taking care of you once the wheels roll off the lot. If you believe the smiling salesman when he told you that then you probably paid too much and I have a bridge to England to sell ya! Get the best price when you buy it and take it to the best service center you can find!

No they are too big and heavy but that is just a personal preference.
I had a friend who owned a small RV dealership he had a saying I remember “campers and people are a lot alike if you skin them there isn’t much difference in them” or something to that affect.

Have a '17 MHC and yes - but not from the same dealer !!!!!!!!!!!! The dealer can eliminate much of the headache, NO KIDDING! Wished I knew then what I know now. Push'em to the limit or they'll do it to you. Shop Extended Warranty and Service contracts BEFORE going in.
