Recommended Repair Shops

Mike's recommendation of Ricky's RV Repair this morning finally got me off my butt put a listing together that can be added to whenever I need assistance in some area of the country. If you've had a good experience with a dealer or repair shop please note it here and I and others like me who are making our lists can note it for future reference. We all have to realize that just because one person had a good experience others may not, but when you're in a foreign area this would be a start. Here's our personal list:
Arizona
1. Camping World, Mesa
Kansas
1. Four Seasons RV Acres, Abilene
2. Adventure RV, Wichita
Indiana
1. Tiara RV, Goshen
2. Mount Comfort RV, Greenfield
New Mexico
1. Jimmy’s RV Repair, Deming
2. Camping World, Albuquerque

Adventure RV in Wichita is kind of a scary looking place, but they do a lot of RV repairs and are both a Keystone and a Splendide dealer and repair shop. I was happy with what I had done there and the owner personally checked the work because the mechanic he had doing ours was new.

Master Truck & Trailer in Wadsworth, Ill. Though not a RV specialist is great with tuck and trailer related items such as hoses, wiring, hitches, etc.

DIck ... as with any posting like this you'll always have applause and booing. It's good you had positive results with Adventure in Wichita. I tried them for warranty work with disasterous results ... ended up taking it to Flint Hills RV (Keystone products) on the east side of town to get it fixed right. The owner is widely known for his unusual business practices ... he'd rather watch you drive off the lot before he'd come down a mere $500 to seal a deal.

I agree, had a good experience, but a scary place. Never tried to buy anything there. I take it you're recommending Flint Hills, however?

I appreciate this list as we worry about being out there and not knowing. You previously stated you might keep a Word Document, would like to suggest maybe using Excel as you could sort for things like state, dealer, date, MOC user, etc. but any way you do it is great.

Yes, that occurred to me also, but I've only set it up for State, City, Dealer Name and Comments. Comments is where I've been putting things like "truck and trailer issues" or " some good, some bad" etc. I'm also going to put a section on the bottom of MOC members unhappy with this dealer. For various reasons, including some folks might not give their opinion names of folks pro or con will not be included. If someone is interested they could post for opinions on that dealer and see who jumps on it so I'm not including it on this list.

Kitsmiller RV in Mason Michigan (SE of Lansing) did a very good job fixing stress cracks in the fiberglass of our old unit, and replacing the axles. Keep in mind that was 6 years ago though so I don't know if they are still good or not, but they are not a new dealer, so they must still be doing OK.

Thanks Tom. True things change and different folks have different experiences, but it will be better than nothing to know someone had a good (or not so good) experience at least once.

See that is the rub with any reviews, online, here, there, everywhere. It all depends on the day of the week, new moon, old moon, how the service dude is trained or NOT, how he feels that day or NOT, how much pressure he is under from his boss and/or his wife that week/month/year, and a bit of creative good luck. I mean, even the service center does not get it right every time, first time. And we all love the service center. We are all humans we all have really good days and we all have really stinkin days where we cannot walk straight without biting our tongues off.

And, that comes from the queen of rant. Just ask anyone who is a friend on Facebook. And, ya, I'll probably post another rant in the next 30 days or so.

I wouldn’t know about the service center because Keystone refused me access to it.

Great idea Dick! Here are three from us:
1. Curtis Trailers in Hillsboro, Oregon (This is near Portland, OR - but not THE Curtis Trailers in Portland, this is a second branch of Curtis.) We've purchased two rigs from them, including our current Monty and have had work done on both rigs over the years: http://curtistrailers.com/
2. Johnnie Walker RV in Las Vegas, NV: http://www.johnniewalkerrv.com/
3. CampingWorld in Asheville, NC: www.campingworldofasheville.com/#8206;

My first choice is try to make it home. On the road service can be a disaster for all the reasons stated. I came home from Amarillo to San Antonio with both landing legs not operational. Left the truck and RV at my San Antonio dealer and got the work done. One leg was paid by the lousy Keystone dealer in Amarillo and the other under warranty. Second choice would be to check the MOC for anyone who has good experience with dealers in a specific area.

Nice when you can do that, but for those of us who fulltime it's not an option.
