I installed a longer pin box with air ride from Lippert, along with the new PullRite 20k 50# hitch, Couldn't be happier.
Soooo much smoother with the air ride.
Yes I happily tow with a 2500 and Firestone air bags and on board air @ 25-35psi.
The only difference in a GM to 3500 is overload springs, SRW the brakes are the same. and 3500 the rotor diameter is actually smaller.
I removed my 18k Superglide beacuse I didn't like the noise or the sloppiness or the weight (for sale)
The extended pin box made all the difference in cab clearance with my std box.

You might consider looking at the pin box rather than the hitch. Reese has a Sidewinder pin box that moves your pivot point to the rear about 22 - 24 inches. I've found that not only do I have way more cab clearance, but the RV trails better and backing is easier. Reese also has the Sidewinder with the air bag or shock. I'm sure there are other brands out there, but all I can speak to is the Reese because it's the one I had installed.
