Lengths and Reality
I finally decided to measure the overall length of my 2010 Mountaineer 324RLQ, which is titled as a 32' 5th wheel. It is said to mean 32', Rear Living area, (Quad) 4 slides
So, not including the rear bumper which is an additional 5", and also considering that the front cap is longer in the center than the pin box, so a measurement from the rear trim outer edge to center of the front cap was 36.57'. If you throw in the ladder which overhangs the bumper by a few more inches, you have close to 37.5' to stuff into those 32' camp sites the for which the state parks are famous.
I don't suppose any of this means anything of value, just would make everything easier if the real length was a meaningful portion of the model number.

I measured our rig from the back of the bike rack to the front of the TV. 57' overall length when towing.

The numerical number doesn't have anything to do with length on many manufacture's trailers. On some, it is actually sq footage. If you look on the Keystone site the Montana 343RL is 37'11" long. Never measure the interior living space. But after talking to several different dealers, they all said, "look at the spec sheet, not the model number"

Welcome to the approximate world of RVing. The measurements were done by fishermen. You know how they are noted for extreme accuracy.

I think the person doing the measuring also does the weight charts

Stiles, you have that right. I don't know how many 14" trout I have caught that fit in a 10" frying pan.

I was told by one of the Montana personel that the number was the length of the rubber roof. Where are you suppose to park the rest of the front and back caps?
My 350RLQ measures 39'4"

The Montana Dealer told us our 324RLQ is 35'11". I just tell the RV Parks that we are 36ft. We have never measured. This thread does make me curious, think I'll step-it-off.

When we had our first 5ver, not a Montana, we were also confused by the length vs. the model number. In 2001 the meaning of the number equated to the amount of feet behind the tow vehicle not the length of the unit. Our SOB was a 30RLS which meant 30' behind the tow vehicle. The actual length was almost 34'. I have not measured the length of our 3400RL but I would bet it's close to 34' behind the tow vehicle. I'm sure that does not include the ladder or any other non essential add ons.

If you look at the spec sheets for some of the SOBs, some of them specify a length that actually matches very close to the stated model number.
But not Montanas (and a number of others). The data sheets on my 3075RL say it is 34'-8". Have not actually measured it though.

I hate to ask, but I've figured out most of the acronyms here, however, what is an SOB?? Someone should make a sticky of all these

Our 06 3400 is just under 40 feet long no matter what the spec said.

Measured my 3455sa today because you folks raised my curiosity. From nose to ladder is 39 ft. +or - an inch as it is difficult to be accurate. Specs say 37ft. 4ins. When I make reservations , I just say 40. So, anybodys guess is good. Larry

No Sticks, it has a lot of value to those of us who have requested a site based on "short" numbers and got a site that would only support those "short" numbers. Thanks, Michael

I once heard that the model number was the inside length...inside forward wall to inside back wall.
