Where's all the "Party Lights"?
In our 2nd trip out in our new to us Montana, we're noticing very few party lights up on 5th wheels and motorhomes. Is it because folks are constantly closing up their awnings at night or it's too much of a hassle? Just wondering what you do....thanks, D

To much work to put on and off each time you close the awning in our case. We have even considered the sunshade but same issue has to come off when the awning goes in.

We always place our lights on the awnings. Unless it’s very windy, we put out the awning and leave it until we start packing up to leave. Notice the picture on our profile page!

Ditto Bill-N-Donna on that one. We have a strand of 10 globe lights with 40 watt bulbs in each that can light up the northern sky, well at least the northern part of the campground!! Our awning is out and strapped sown all of the time as well unless we know there are thunderstorms or winds of 20 mph forecast. We rely heavily on the weather channel or weather.com when we are camping.

We don't usually put ours out unless we are going to be in one place more than 4-5 days.

We put ours out, unless it's just overnight. Two bigger ones on the ends and 10 small ones in the middle.

We usually always have a string of rope lights on the awning and a couple more on the ground.

As much as Louise would like me to put up "dingle balls", I refuse.

We always put the lights out unless the weather will not allow for it. The wife thinks it is not camping without them.

We always put our dragonfly lights out, too, unless the weather is against us (wind and/or rain). The biggest hassle with our lights is that the wire they're on seems to stay so stiff that it's difficult to get the lights strung evenly. As soon as the weather warms up (if that ever happens up here), I'm going to hang them vertically from the ladder on the rig and hope that the heat from the sun will relax the wires.
After the white elephant gift exchange at the 7 Feathers rally 2 years ago, we went home with a great pair of decorative solar lights on poles; we put those out, too, unless there's a strong wind blowing.

We have an electric awning with a wind sensor, so that is a concern. No lights on the awning. We also like to get away from the everyday "city" lights, a little darkness makes it much more romantic!

Note to self, do not setup next to bw2 at any rallies or similar functions in the future. Garishly bright awning lights totalling 400 watts will not project a romantic atmosphere of darkness towards their site and we do not want to impede romance in any way, manner or fashion!!

Unless weather precludes it, if we are anywhere more than one night the lights go up. The lights we have been using aren't weather proof though.
We bought multiple strings of special lights (small globe bulbs), rated for outdoors, to set the mood for our daughter's wedding reception venue last December. I'm going to grab one string for the trailer and set aside the other strings to be "spare bulbs". I figure I've got enough to keep me going for years!

Actually we use a sunshade on our power awning and it rolls up with it when retracting. Of course we remove it to travel. Done this 3 years with no problem.

20 mph winds. You'd never have your awning out here then. I was just listening to the radio weather and they said temperature currently 54, winds currently light and variable, 25 to 30 mph from the NE. Now - I also must admit that in the 5 plus years I've had my trailer, I've only had my awning out 3 times for the same reason; too dang windy. In fact there have been times that I've regretted having slide toppers because they flutter so badly at times -- sounds like thunder in the trailer!!!

We use the awning with a sunshade which I modified having the gree/brown nilon slide in groove, sewn on the screen, so if the wind does get crazy I just pop off the lights on the ground and untie the wind straps and roll up the screen and the awning together, then when it calms down I open it back up tie it down and enjoy the shade or cover from the rain.

We have found lately the rope lights laid around the grass mat is easier to use and you don't need to take them off if putting up the awning. We use a timer so we don't have to go out and turn them on/off.

Agree...plus, IM very HO, some (most) are just plain tacky, and I would not put them on the Montana or the new MH.
