SQUEAKY FLOOR

I can’t believe how squeaky the floor is. I was led to believe one of the benefits of the Montana construction with the single sheet of plywood flooring glued the joists would be the lack of noisy floors and was one of the major selling points we considered.
The only place I notice it is just along the carpeted side of kitchen counter where the cabinet turns back to the wall. Unfortunately this is a high traffic area and very annoying to me.

Does anyone else have this problem?
Did anyone attempt to have Keystone address it?

Send a message via Yahoo to NCFischers
See snfexpress' post on his squeeky floor and what he found. It might help.

John & Jodi,
What I found in our 08 2955 was a bolt through the floor in the carpeted area across from the kitchen sink. This bolt was attached to the top flange of the floor truss. As the floor was walked on there would be enough flex to cause the bolt to move up and down enough to cause the floor OSB to squeak. The bolt rubbing was the real problem.
My fix was to gouge out around the bolt where it goes through the OSB from the bottom and shoot some construction floor adhesive around it. At the same time I shot some canned foam insulation around the floor joist also. No more squeaks. You have to drop the belly cover and cut the belly wrap to access this area.

Yes, we just took delivery on our 3400RL. There is a squeak in the kitchen area.It seems to be the crossmember that goes across close in the floor duct area. I can get under mine and push up on the crossmember and the squeak stops. I'll be taking mine back in when time permits.

John and Jodi-- Since you have a 2010, I'd be taking your unit back to the dealer or a dealer if you are not close to yours and having them take care of the problem. That way you don't have to crawl under the unit, take the belly cover down, cut the belly wrap yourself and remove any insulation that may be under there to get to the problem and the dealer is responsible for the repair afterwards to those three parts of it! The warranty should cover it all this way also.

Thanks for the advice. I have several issues that the dealer agreed to address when we did the PDI. I give them a call and ask them to add it to the list.

Other than they claimed to have 'tightened something,' no.

I just found the problem. It was one of the round bar crossbraces on the crossmember. The weld was broke and bar was rubbing metal to metal.

We had the same issue. Squeak in floor on carpet area just around corner from sink of our 3455. The dealer took care of it. Good luck.

We had the same problem in our 3455SA. The squeak was coming from the cabinet area where the central vac would be (we don't have that option) and it was very annoying when you would walk past there. What I found was inside the cabinet on the floor against the inside base there is a piece of wood that is screwed to the floor. I loosened the screws some and the squeak has gone away. You may want to look and make sure the "toe kick" piece of wood in that area isn't rubbing wood on wood causing the squeak too. I placed some small pieces of carpet inside our cabinet between the ends of the toe kick as well. If you can't find it and take care of it yourself I'm sure the dealer will. Good luck.

we've enjoyed our 3255RL for 4 years. The only thing that squeeks or creaks when I walk accross the floor is my knees!!

We likewise had a squeaky floor on both sides of the island and between the island and the stairs. Dealer added a few screws to the 3/4" plate that locates the island (have to get inside the island) Helped until we moved the rig. I added 23 more screws. Helped until we moved but still had some squeaks. This past Friday the dealer called Montana and they told them to go in the bottom and add shims as needed. They added them in 9 places (something about gaps at the gussets. not sure what that means without understanding more about the frame design). Still a few pops as you walk on the carpeted side but much improved. Will see how it holds up after a few more miles.

Since this appears to be a common problme I wonder if this might be a design flaw or result of less than adequate manufacturing methods.

Open the door to the vacuum closet. Look straight down along wall at bottom of door on inside. There is a 1x1 board attaching wall to floor. See a screw in the middle area of board, remove screw. Stopped ours and we heard it from another Monty owner. Good luck! Larry
