tire question

I have had 4 tires fail...broken belts...in less than 1 yr. Goodyear Marathon 235-80-16. Approximately 5000 miles. Pressures well maintained. 3455SA ..2011..purchased new in Apr. 2010. Are others having this difficulty?

There are many threads, including mine, about those Chinese road bombs. Contact Goodyear if you still have the tires. They made good on the tires and the damage that was caused.

Larry, pretty well documented that the China tires are not doing very well on the heavier RV units. A lot of us have switched to BFG TA LT235/85/R16 or the Goodyear G614's. I have the BFG TA's and they have been doing just fine.

I wonder what makes some better than others.
My Marathons have over 10,000 miles and still going strong.
With all the others who have had problems I do watch carefully.
With the TST monitoring system I feel somewhat protected.

I just read this information on a the "Tire Rack" web site.
Initial Review, 11,000 Miles on Tires

April 23, 2011

Purchased 4 in May 2009. Checked manufactuer date 42/08. Mounted and balanced for a price of $154.00EA. over a two year period I have travelled primarily highway miles (10,000). Tires have always been maintained at 65PSI and have never exceeded 60MPH. Today (04/22/11) while checking brakes I noticed two of the four were wearing strangely. I took them back to my original tire dealer and was told both were defective and needed to be replaced. One was "Out-Of-Round" the second had "SEVERE" cord separation. (dealers words)
I will be looking for a different tire soon. I was concerned with this purchase at the time, but was reassured by my tire dealer. I did however buy a full replacement warranty which dealer suggested. Dealer did tell me that he would be able to replace the two I had in for replacement, but that he would not be able to provide any additional should they be needed due to a manufacturer HOLD on Goodyear Marathon tires. He indicated that they would not be available again for a LEAST two months.
Maybe Goodyear is finally accepting reviews indicating a high failure rate for this tire.

I think the size of the trailer makes a difference in the Chinese tires. I also have a 3000RK trailer bought in 2010 with about 13,000 miles on the back 2 tires with no problems. The front 2 were replaced along with a new axle under the 1 yr warranty. How many of you have your tires balanced after you buy your new trailer. They DON'T come balanced from the factory. The 235/80R16E tires are not enough tire for the bigger tailers with more weight. They are fine for my 3000RK.

We've lost count of how many Goodyear Marathons we've had fail on us over the years. I will never ever in a million years buy a Chinese tire for anything more important than a wheelbarrow! (I know I'm probably being overly kind...........)

Michelin Ribs. Pricy, but hopefully reliable. I added a tire pressure monitor system.

As long as they meet the weight criteria, which they do, Keystone will keep using them...follow the money.

ANY LT235/85R16 will do a much better job.

We are having BFG T/A's put on our trailer tomorrow. Getting rid of the Goodyear Marathon china bombs that came on our 3455SA. We have about 4000 miles on ours and two of the tires have bubbles on the sidewalls. Good Luck.

Perseverance pays. Goodyear promises full credit for all 5 Marathons, plus credit for out of pocket expenses...wear adjustments...roadside asst....etc. and total amount deducted from price of new set of G614's.....Hallelujah!!!!! After all adjustments paid $325.00 difference for upgrade.

You did good, better than I did, but I relied on the dealer, never thought about Goodyear. Good info nonetheless, hopefully it will help others.
