All RVs need a slam. I took my latch appart, then cut the main spring, then stretched it to length. It took a couple tries to get it correct but now it works geat. I have a cargo trailer with a similar latch that is rivitted and as yet I have not had the guts to drill them out. Eventually I will then have all three of my trailers with doors working smoothly. If you do this be careful that when you open the case you look closely, (or even take picture) to be certain you can get it all back properly. Good luck.
