I like to keep my travel days under 300 miles and fill up at night. Of course, if you're planning an Alaskan trip up the AlCan, GET THE TRANSFER TANK!

I have a long bed Ram Dulie, with a 120 gal. Aux. Tank on the front of the bed. I gravity feed to the main tank. I can buy fuel at cheepest locations, no mess, no fuss, but deep pockets needed to fill-er-up.

Extra fuel tank

I have a 70gal tank L shaped. When I fill up I carry 105 gallons. Don't have any problems.

I put a 60 gallon aux tank in my short bed F350. I like being able to go 2 days in case we don't find a convenient place to refill. We usually unhitch every couple days and can look for cheaper diesel at a smaller station. Mine is gravity fill with a manual valve at the bottom of the tank. It would be nice to leave the valve open all the time but have learned the hard way that's not a good idea for several reasons.

I found a 30 gallon diesel tank when I was cleaning up my yard. I mounted it in the back with a simple fuel pump and a solenoid and T'd it into the fuel neck. Flip a switch and it pumps right into the OEM tank. It's easy finding a bathroom but not always easy to find a fuel station that can handle a 39' trailer.

I have the 50 gallon titan tank so that:
1, I don’t have to try and navigate the pump stations while towing
2, fuel is cheaper in town than on the highways

You hit the nail on the head exactly. Its about hauling a 40’ RV and stopping at your own convience. Its not having to go off some exit in desperation because of low fuel not knowing if a station you can pull the rig into or maybe a unknown low bridge.
Our rv is 13’5” high and not all are that high or long so that’s why it’s a convience well worth it to me.When you buy a RV you have to try and be prepared for what ever obstacle comes your way.
Has nothing to do with some thinking they are a better driver. Also if your hauling with a 3/4 ton tow vehicle you are more then likely not pulling that big of a rig.If you are Its more likely you are illegal.

It really depends on you and how and where your travels take you. We tend to take long trips to remote locations. Since we are still working we tend to dash there, relax , then dash home. We top off as close to destination as possible to avoid the premium prices. With 82gal, we can stop when and where we want eat,nap or walk around and not make additional stops at road side fuel stations.

I have a 60 gal Rds toolbox tank in my F350 dually, on top of the 38 ( now 48 in my 2018) .. it makes for stressless fueling. Usually after I unhook my 40 ft fw.

Just moved the tank from my 2012 to my 2018.
Wouldn't be without it

Mine is also gravity feed. I have an electric switch to turn it on and off

If u happen by a Northern Tool location they usually have a couple in stock, as well as the adapter kit for the stock fuel fill tube

Installed RDS gravity flow in F350
Works great and now I choose where to stop and not look at fuel gauge while towing. $800 installed

I a transfer tank before my trip to Alaska last year. The short bed F350 has only 26 gallons of capacity. I did use it a few times, but actually, I could have easily got along without it. It felt good having the capacity there, though. My preference for the transfer tank allows it to be easily removed after it is emptied. My bed has very little room anyway, and for normal use, I wouldn't want it there. I just held it in place with a couple of straps.

This summer I installed a 46 gallon aux tank from ATI. Gravity feed; no wiring involved. Increases my range to 1000 miles (not that I would drive that far). Mostly it's about convenience. Finding gas stations to easily accommodate a big 5th wheel is challenging. I don't sweat having enough fuel anymore.

I installed the RDS 40 Gal Tank/Tool Box combo in the new truck. Haven't needed to stop at a Truck Stop since. Since we limit our travel days to 250 - 275 miles I can fill-up every other day after dropping the trailer in the CG.

Howdy Sam! I'm still in love with your new dually!

On a side note, several of us here are on the list to carry FEMA trailers at a moments notice to areas such as Hurricane Michael destroyed. With curfews in place, limited electricity and lots of damage, you need all the fuel you can carry to reach locations that were easily accessible only days ago.

I am on my maiden voyage with our 3700LK. Before the trip, I replaced the stock 24 gallon tank with a Titan 50 gallon tank. I did not want an auxiliary tank in the bed, as space when I am not towing is precious! The tank works great. On a side note, I also installed air bags with a compressor - what a difference it makes in towing! More stability, less bouncing and surging. Love the new tank!

Well, at least a 1 ton SRW would do - that sticker is a mythical number. Only applies to the truck as it rolls off the assembly line.

Auxiliary tank

For the weekend traveler or short trips, an auxiliary tank is hard to justify. We travel from WI to SW Florida and back each winter season, roughly a 1400-1500 mile trip. We make about 3 overnights along the way and other than an occasional rest stop, we stay on the road. I had a 2011 F-350 diesel truck with a 26 gallon built in tank and added an RDS 45 gallon gravity fed tank to give me extended travel. Recently traded for a 2017 F-350 with a 34 gallon on-board tank, but still kept the aux. tank, because 34 gallons is not enough and thus am never forced to have to make a fuel stop I don't want. I bought the tank from Harbor Freight for roughly $500, so there is a cost, and it's a job attaching the tank and connecting to the fill tube, but once accomplished, it's all worth it. I attach the tank in such a manner that I can remove it at the end of each season plus the hitch is attached to the puc system and as a result, I have a clean bed. BTW, you don't have to fill the aux. tank, but adding another 20 gallons or more, gives you more choices.

Agree a titan would be wonderful, but $500 versus 2K, reason enough!

We generally do a rest area stop in the morning, a lunch stop, and then head for the campground - an afternoon rest area stop if we have a long day planned. Bypass all the expensive, dirty and hard to park in truck stops. After we unhook, use gas buddy to find the cheapest fuel around, and if we are lucky, a store or nice restaurant in the same area.
