Model numbers, what do they mean?
I'll start with the model we are interested in buying, the 3121R, its listed as being 35 feet long. Then the 3700LK is actually over 40 feet long. Trying to understand why the model number doesn't correlate to the length. Or does the length of the front hitch and rear bumper have anything to do with it.
Thanks

I see you are a new member. Model numbers and their meaning have been discussed on here for years. Lots of guesses and ideas, but there seems to be no consensus and little rhyme or reason as to the actual meaning. My 3075RL is listed in the Montana specs as 34'8". And according to Montana, that is from the king pin to the rear most part of the rear cap or the bumper if it has one. So add a few more inches for the front edge of the pin box, and more for the ladder.

Just wanted to see if I was missing anything.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great people here with lots of Montana experience and expertise. But model number meanings have escaped all of us.

There was a thread about this very thing a week or so ago. https://www.montanaowners.com/forums...ad.php?t=82079
Everyone is as confused about this as you are, believe me.
Welcome to,the forum.

This is my explanation, and I'm sticking with it.
For Montana, the first three numbers are interior square footage.
The last number, generally a 0 or 1, indicates RV fridge (0) or residential fridge (1). There are a couple of exceptions you'll notice below. Can't explain why, maybe discontinued earlier series but same square footage ?
3120RL...312 square feet, RV fridge, rear living
3121RL...312 square feet, residential fridge, rear living
3700LK...370 square feet, RV fridge, large kitchen
3701LK...370 square feet, residential fridge, large kitchen
3740FK...374 square feet, RV fridge, front kitchen
3741FK...374 square feet, residential fridge, front kitchen
3760FL...376 square feet, RV fridge, front living
3761FL...376 square feet, residential fridge, front living
3762BP...376 square feet, RV fridge, butler pantry
3763BP...376 square feet, residential fridge, butler pantry
the 376* series has the exact same floor plan except two have half baths and two have butler pantries where the half bath was
3780RL...378 square feet, RV fridge, rear living
3781RL...378 square feet, residential fridge, rear living
3790RD...379 square feet, RV fridge, rear den
3791RD...379 square feet, residential fridge, rear den
3812MS...381 square feet, RV fridge, master bedroom suite
3813MS...381 square feet, residential fridge, master bedroom suite
3854BR...385 square feet, RV fridge, bonus room
3855BR...385 square feet, residential fridge, bonus room
3930FB...393 square feet, RV fridge, front bath
3931FB...393 square feet, residential fridge, front bath
Can't vouch for the High Country model numbers. I believe their three number designation is the interior length. 334 would be 33ft 4in. The letters at the end mean the same as above...RL rear living...RD rear den...BH bunk house...TH toy hauler, etc.
Gospel, according to the Chief. That's the story and I'm sticking to it.

I think there is some merit to that explanation. I've heard RV dealers say that all model numbers are interior length numbers. The overall length seems to be about 4-5 feet longer than the first 2 model numbers. I've always thought about them that way and can always guess overall length pretty closely.

My understanding is the Montana length is measured from the truck hooked then measured from the tail gate of the truck to the bumper if you have one. I am suppose to be 35 feet and it is with the truck hooked. Not including what is over the bed. Our unit is from hitch to bumper measures 39.8 feet.

From the Montana brochure specifications page:
"*Length is defined as the distance from the centerline of hitch pin/coupler to rear bumper of trailer. "

That makes sense. That way you know how long the camper is from the hitch to the back of it.

Agreed. But that's the published overall length. The Model Number reflects a smaller number.

Explain how my 3700RL and my buddie's 3800RL, which are the same exact layout except his TV is in the back rather than the ODS slide, differ by 10 square feet?

Couldn’t find a 3800rl. Did find a 3800re. I see what you are saying. Don’t have a good answer.
Something I did notice is the model number can’t be interior length plus 3 or 4 feet to get overall length as some folks have said. Both models have an exterior length of 38.58 feet.
Anyway, I’m gonna stick with my square footage post. I spent a lot of time looking up the models and typing up everything.
The Chief has spoken.
