campgrounds in Charleston, SC
Does anyone have any experience with campground in Charleston? We're thinking about staying in the area this March.

We stayed in the KOA-10 miles east of Charleston. Except for that bridge and construction around it, the campground wasn't bad. I believe it was called "Mt. Pleasant."

A couple of years ago we stayed at the following park. We were traveling with friends in a large motorhome and we got very nice sites next to each other. Would not hesitate to go back there.
Just to add: this is the same James Island County Park mentioned by several others.

We were there last year and stayed at the James Island County Park. Wonderful place. Plus because we were staying there they gave us a pass to use at the beaches in the area so we didn't have to pay any parking. Usually beach parking was $5.00.

We visited Charleston a couple years ago and stayed at Lake AAire RV Park in south Charleston. The campground is 1000 ft off highway 17 8 miles south of town. There are lots of nice cg's in the area and lots of things to see. Travel to Folly Beach and go to Folly Hideaway. A GREAT place to eat, but hard to find, just ask anyone in town and they will tell you where it's at. Enjoy your stay, it seems like you never have enough time to see all of it.

The best camp ground in the area is James Island County Park. This time of year they have a terrific holiday light show. You will need reservation this time of year.

We stayed at the KOA Mt.Pleasant near Charleston in November of this year. Nice campground and Charleston is a beautiful town, do take the carriage ride around town, very informative and lots of fun. The bridge and surrounding construction are a challenge -- very narrow lanes on bridge due to the construction. Would ot advise taking the 5ver over it, use the ring road when towing -- much easier on the nerves.
Enjoy your stay.
